Purpose



Contributes to the overall success of the Business Banking within the Retails & Small Business team in Turks and Caicos Islands by ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.



The Business Banking Officer is responsible for managing, in an integrated way, the relationship between the Bank and the assigned and linked Business Banking clients by deepening the portfolio, guaranteeing longlasting, stable and profitable business relationships within the framework of excellent service.




Accountabilities



Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge



Comply with the financial budgets established for the Business Banking Segment



Sales Management- Development and preparation of client/call strategies to market and sell to Business Banking Clients:



Acquire new Business Banking client relationships and expand existing ones to achieve sales and other goals

by:



- planning and completing relationship building activities which create sales opportunities

- generates referral and management of referral sources

- identifying prospects using multiple channels including asking for referrals from all available sources, developing a network of community business contacts and participating in marketing/educational seminars

- promoting self-service banking alternatives including Online Banking, Night Depository, ATMs, IVR and POS to Small Business customers and providing customer support with these self-service channels as needed

- seeking new information to understand the market in which you operate including changing trends and new opportunities

- developing, presenting, and selling customized banking solutions

- negotiating compensation for financial products and services, as applicable and in accordance with Bank policy

- referring customers to appropriate Scotiabank Group members as appropriate for identified Personal Banking, Commercial or other financial needs

- understanding the changing needs and preferences of the customer over the various stages of the business life cycle, helping them recognize those needs and matching appropriate solutions



Portfolio Management - You are primarily responsible for the management of an assigned Business Banking portfolio at an acceptable risk for the Bank and maintaining the Bank's Service Standards by:



- developing and maintaining knowledge on customers including the nature of their business, financial position, and business plans

- providing business/financial advice which increases the Business Banking client's ability to succeed

- completing deal negotiation to signed agreement and make seamless introduction to support functions where applicable

- responding to/ redirecting requests for service, instructing and guiding support staff/customers in service use and ensuring ultimate customer satisfaction.

- taking steps to recover customer relationships, when required

- Comply with customer maintenance visits with portfolio within an interval timeframe as specified by business line



Manage assigned portfolio as acceptable risk for borrowing and non-borrowing accounts by identifying, escalating, and resolving compliance issues and material changes prospects:



- completing relationship/account reviews in a timely and detailed manner

- authorizing, renewing or declining customer requests within standard Bank policies and authorized limits, forwarding others as per established procedures

- preparing and/or ensuring all documentation is properly prepared and executed, including Risk Assessment Worksheets as applicable

- conducting due diligence by ensuring accounts adhere to the conditions of authorization/operation

- identifying and resolving deviations from the conditions of authorization / operation

- identifying deteriorating and/or unsatisfactory trends affecting the portfolio, seizing opportunities to reduce risk and loss

- overseeing and monitoring the requirements and the reporting/compliance obligations of the assigned portfolio, TORs and collateral breaches



Contribute to the Branch's overall financial and non-financial objectives by:



- developing an understanding of the branch financial and non-financial goals and how to contribute to them

- negotiating aggressive yet achievable financial and non-financial goals

- participating in sales and service meetings, skill-building sessions and one-on-one coaching sessions

- partner with Personal Banking Officers in the execution of the Power of One meetings

- adhering strictly to Bank and Branch security procedures and assigned authorities and responsibilities, and reporting any unusual occurrences or fraudulent activity to your supervisor as soon as you become aware of it



Compliance - Meet Regulatory Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing and Bank policies and procedures for all bank products and services by:

- applying the Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements including verifying and documenting Customer identity, source(s) of funds and the nature of the activity that is to be undertaken;

- reviewing customer transactions (for assigned accounts) to ensure activity is appropriate for the type of business or a reasonable explanation is provided

- adhering to Bank and Branch Security Procedures with respect to assigned authorities and responsibilities

- documenting and escalating unusual occurrences or fraudulent activity to your Supervisor / Compliance Officer as soon as you become aware of it in conjunction with the Bank's Anti-Money Laundering Guidelines

- Conducting due diligence and assisting in obtaining additional information from customers concerning unusual activity identified on the account monitoring reports/sourcing of funds declarations/LCTRs/Daily Significant Transaction Reports

- Ensuring all customer documentation is complete and up to date, conforms to policy requirements and subsequently readily accessible

- In conjunction with the Branch Compliance Officer, assist in the preparation of Unusual Transactions Reports

- Providing guidance and direction to other branch staff, regarding AML/Compliance activities and initiatives that impact the Business Banking portfolio



Ensure the ongoing quality of the assigned portfolio through control and administration of the specific conditions and reporting requirements as specified in individual authorizations are adhered to by:



- Advising senior management of any credit weaknesses developing within individual accounts, by ongoing awareness and analysis of relevel financial, legal, political, technological and industry information



Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.



Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education/ Experience/ Other Information (include only those that are specific to the role)



A Bachelor's degree in a Financial or Business Management discipline



A minimum of three (3) years' experience in a Financial Advisory role
