Job Description Summary

You'll join an industry-leading award-winning Data Analytics team within Group Internal Audit to support the development and use of data science techniques. You'll be operating in a hands-on and dynamic role within a central team of professional data analysts and scientists.

You'll apply a wide-range of often groundbreaking data science techniques (covering e.g. machine learning, text mining and visualisation) to highly dynamic, complex and large data sets, which includes the design, implementation and delivery of robust utilities for business auditors to support their audit work. You'll propose, research and conduct ad-hoc analytics to explore data science techniques on risk management and auditing that make a real difference. This role is highly visible to senior management with exposure to the entire Group activities.

You'll either apply advanced data science technical knowledge to support the development of utilities to increase efficiencies and maximise the added value for Lloyds Banking Group - Group Internal Audit function, or innovate and perform ad-hoc analytics to explore how data science techniques can be best applied within an Internal Audit function.

Job Description

As a Data Scientist - Manager - Analytics, you'll deliver multiple data analytics projects concurrently to an agreed schedule and with minimal direct supervision. Projects can be delivered by yourself or collaboratively with other team members and partners. Your high-standard delivery includes ad-hoc complex analytics and robust utilities for audit teams to perform their own advanced analytics.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Communicate on technical areas in plain, simple language that is easy to understand. Obtain sufficient level of auditing and business knowledge so that all deliveries are fit for end users' purpose.
  • Lead and manage complex data science projects and competing priorities. You'll will apply agile project management and best practices in software development. Keep management team up to date on status and raise issues and concerns promptly.
  • Work collaboratively across the audit function to develop an understanding of business priorities and risks relevant to assigned audits and engagements. Find opportunities to apply data science and more broadly data analytics.
  • Maintain and develop upgrades to existing utilities. Answer queries and provide support to end users.
  • Be a subject matter guide and a focal contact to answer queries from the team and function. Share knowledge, give training and awareness sessions. Build and maintain relationships with partners in internal audit and the rest of the group. Motivate, develop and collaborate to foster a culture of lifelong learning.
  • Co-ordinate production and collation of team management information and status reports. Take ownership for delivering related activities ensuring the right level of quality is achieved and raise as appropriate. Embrace continuous improvement through supporting change initiatives.

You'll need to be able to proven experience of applying data science techniques and concepts to a real-world industry (non-academic) applications, such as re-usable models and scripts. Previous financial services, audit or risk experience is not required although a strong interest in applying data sciences techniques to these topics and rapidly learn is a prerequisite.

As it is a hands-role role, you'll be an authority in data analytics tool such as SQL, Tableau, SAS or equivalent and mainstream data science programming languages and tools such as R, Python or Matlab. You'll need to demonstrate in your past experience the ability to deliver data science analysis or tools using these languages while applying standard methodologies in software development and attain advanced understanding of the key relevant data science concepts and techniques.

You'll demonstrate competence in leading partners, communicate in a way that a lay audience can understand, and deliver with a constraint timescale and competing priorities. Experience in project management is a plus.
