The Data Test Analyst will be responsible for a range of test activities within one or more of the priority programmes within Data Management. These activities will include areas such as Analysis on change or new requirments, test planning, test execution and defect management.

Role Purpose

The Data Test Analyst will be responsible for a range of test activities within one or more of the priority programmes within Data Management. These activities will include areas such as Analysis on change or new requirements, test planning, test execution and defect management.

This role will be specifically looking at 2 key Projects within the Data Management Team, the role will involve Quality Assurance across the consumption, mastering and extraction of data to and from vendor based systems.

They will be working within multi skilled teams responsible for ensuring the Quality of functional changes or new functions to production.

Major Challenges

The main responsibilities for this role will be as follows:

Analysis - the candidate must have the ability to interpret project documentation into as expected outcome. It is required that using documentation the candidate would be able to engage with the project team and discuss the deliverable. This would then feed into their ability to create accurate and credible test scripts and scenarios.

Documentation - the candidate must be able to produce test documentation expected by the Project(s). Documentation would Include High Level Test Plans and Test Completion Reports.

Test Definitions - a key requirement of this role for the candidate is the ability to articulate test scenarios within a test tool - the HSBC tool used is Quality Centre. These test scenarios or scripts must not only be rich in information they must also be of such quality that they can be transferable to another member of the team. The candidate must also be able to understand the expanse of the testing needed across a deliverable and to make risk assessments regarding what testing is essential for the change or function to be deemed fit for purpose.

Understanding of what is expected - the candidate must be able to use the project documentation and other member of the project team to gain enough of an understanding of the change or new function that an estimate of test effort can be made.

Defect Management - it is expected that the candidate has the ability to manage not only their own defects but defects raised by others and in some cases manage the defect across the whole change interacting with the vendors for feedback and updates.

Communication - the candidate must have excellent communication skills. The teams for the 2 main Data projects are extremely knowledgeable and should be utilised as much as possible. There is also the need to regularly interact with other programmes as consumers of the data and vendors also.

Technical Expertise - the role resides in the Data Management Team which is a business area. However the candidate is expected to have strong QA/SIT experience with the ability to be able to query databases and use extracted data for querying purposes.

Role Context

The role sits in the Data Management Team, reporting directly to the Data Management Test Manager. The successful candidate will be working very closely with the Test Manager. Supporting the Test Manager in the growing test requirement across the Data Management Projects.

On a day to day basis, it is expected that the successful candidate will attend regular project and test specific meetings. Where there may be the need to raise issues, give updates on progress and challenge subjects that are not clear.

As the Test Analyst the successful candidate will be a welcomed and valued member of team, any knowledge or experience in the field will be greatly received, when specifying future deliverables with the Business Analysts. The team ethic is very open to suggestions from all members.

Aside from meetings, there will also with the practical side of the role which would see difference phases - analysis and documentation to execution and defect management. The role will be very changeable and offers a wide variety of work experience within the Data Management Team.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate:

  • A good understanding of Asset Management Business
  • Data Analysis experience is essential
  • Deep experience in delivering Test aligned work within a Data Role.
  • A track record of working in a global environment with distributed business users and IT resources
  • Experience of working with Vendor Project Teams.
  • Be self -motivated and driven but able to manage/support and work within a team
  • Strong demonstrable database experience
