With operations all over the world and a range of investment products and services, BlackRock is one of the most complex financial services organizations servicing clients today. In order to achieve operational excellence, BlackRock’s operations teams ensure BlackRock's corporate, mid- and back-office functions are consistent and efficient across investment products, client channels and regions. The Aladdin Product Group’s Business Operations Enterprise Systems (BOES)  team provides technology solutions for BlackRock's operations teams in addition to external client operations teams including investment accounting, performance measurement, reconciliations, derivatives management, corporate systems and client reporting.  The team is responsible for a suite of applications including performance calculation engines, client reporting systems, reconciliation and data publication tools. We innovate incrementally and focus on high level of client service through responsiveness, accuracy and efficiency. 
 
The Aladdin BOES team is looking for an ambitious development manager for a global team of developers working on a critical strategic product area.  Working with a global team you will lead a team of engineers designing, building and productising the technology to support the regulatory requirements of our firm, our asset management clients and our Aladdin clients.  You will be passionate about all aspects of enterprise development – performance, usability and maintainability as well as having the commercial and product acumen to turn this in to a key part of our external Aladdin offering.  You will be an experienced manager with a proven track record of inspiring his team and managing their careers. As a key member of our leadership team you will be expected to bring your ideas forward to help shape our product strategy across multiple areas of the platform. Hence you will have excellent communication skills and be very comfortable presenting your ideas to senior leaders and influencing across all levels.  This is an ideal opportunity for a leader that wants to engage and deliver change on a global scale, and get exposure to our external Aladdin client business.        
 
An ideal candidate should be a fast learner of new tools and technologies. Have passion for continuous research inside and outside their current focus. Must be able to improvise and think across disciplines. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate technical terminology to non-technical people. Must be an excellent team player and be able to offer support and establish trust with our partners in business operations. 
 
Key Responsibilities
 


  • Lead a team of developers -- manage resources, assignments and programs of work across the team


  • Drive platform architecture direction


  • Communicate with global stakeholders in multiple time zones


  • Translate complex business and functional requirements into technical designs


  • Enforce best practices within the team


  • Understand existing systems and resolve operations issues while working with other support staff located across the globe.


  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Product Managers to draft project scope and compile delivery estimates


  • Collaborate with other development teams and conduct proof of concepts for emerging technologies
Skills/Qualifications
 

  • B.S. / M.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline


  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills


  • Ability to work in a team-environment


  • Extensive experience with multi-tier application architecture and design


  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise software development


  • 5+ years of experience with Java/J2EE architecture design and development


  • 5+ years of experience with modern web development frameworks and tools


  • 3+ years of experience in writing complex SQL, stored procedures in MS SQL Server or Sybase


  • Ability to work under pressure and take ownership of issues


  • Financial Industry domain experience and regulatory knowledge a plus
