An exciting opportunity for a senior Risk professional to take up an SMF4 level position within the brokerage business of a global financial services organization. You will be responsible for leading the Risk Management function and providing hands-on day-to-day oversight of Risk in their UK, Ireland and European regions.

Responsibilities

This is a standalone SME role, and will require the successful candidate to carry out the following responsibilities:

  • Chair and manage the Risk Controls Oversight Committee; formulate and periodically review the organisation’s risk management policies.
  • Implement global risk management policies and infrastructure for the entity.
  • Provide counsel to business unit managers on risk management issues and evaluate significant transactions and/or capital commitments prior to execution.
  • Advocate industry best practice.  Establish and enhance company risk culture through training and public relations.
  • Proactively interact with, and share best practice with other risk professionals in the wider business.
  • Maintain and establish risk management procedures and standards, develop risk management analyses and reports, approval procedures and guidelines, including risk maps.
  • Produce and execute Risk Management’s Risk Implementation Plan.
  • Conduct regular meetings with Business Unit leaders to discuss operational risk matters, update risk maps and ensure risk culture is embedded.
  • Produce and execute on:
    • Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP).
    • Pillar 3 disclosure
    • Recovery and Resolution Plans
    • Winddown Plan
    • MiFID RTS 6 Algorithmic validation review
    • Client trading credit reviews
    • Key Risk Indicators – both daily and monthly
  • Coordinate and lead on the review of
    • critical and material vendors
    • cyber risk
  • Proactively consider and input into:
    • Liquidity risk modelling and the Liquidity Risk Management Framework
    • P&L stress test modelling for the ICAAP
  • Drive Operational Risk Management Programmes, including risk framework, risk maps and error/incident management, remediation and root cause analysis/resolution.
  • Regulatory implementation (where appropriate).
  • Support new products and initiatives.
  • Co-operate and co-ordinate with Compliance on system and control issues.
  • Drive error management

Regulatory Requirements

  • The role will require the individual to be approved by the FCA, this will be dependent on:
    • Satisfactory regulatory reference from previous employer
    • Satisfactory background checks
    • Satisfactory self attestation as to fitness and propriety

Experience Required

  • Significant track record in achieving aims relating to the stated responsibilities
  • A University degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Operations Management, Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Substantial relevant experience in consulting, strategic analysis, operations analysis & planning which should include significant exposure to financial institutions. FCA and Broker-Dealer experience is desirable.
  • Must have superior communications and interpersonal skills and a consultative approach to problem-solving.
  • Must be highly analytical, with keen business acumen and a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Proficiency in PC applications: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, MS-Project, Visio (or similar processing flow mapping application). Familiarity with Database applications is a plus.
