The Value of Active Minds

About Jupiter

Jupiter is one of the UK's leading investment management companies with over 500 employees and £52.6 billion worth of assets under management (as at 29th March 2024).

Jupiter provides investment services to individual and institutional investors through mutual funds (UK unit trusts, Luxembourg SICAVs and Dublin OEICs), separately managed accounts and sub-advised funds. Jupiter has experienced a period of international growth with offices open across EMEA and APAC.

The majority of our employees are based in our London office located just minutes from Victoria station which provides stair-free access from both the Underground's Victoria line and National Rail platforms, as well as limited road crossings to the Jupiter office. Our London office was designed to encourage employees to live active, healthy lives with floor-to-ceiling windows that allow for greater natural light and the benefit of a private balcony, table tennis room, cycle storage and on-site shower and locker facilities. The short distance to Green Park and St James' Park also provides employees with a natural space to relax during their lunch break and a healthy alternative to office-based meetings.

We offer our UK employees a 3:2 hybrid working arrangement where Tuesdays, Thursdays and a third day of your choice are worked from the office. The other two days may be worked from home. This facilitates collaboration and allows employees to maximise productivity whilst maintaining a healthy work/life balance.

Background

Jupiter's ESG approach is characterised by our active management and investment-led philosophy. This is an opportunity to join the ESG Research and Integration team that works closely with investment teams across all asset classes.

The role offers real exposure to and participation with our investment teams. As well as working on thematic research including the production of thought leadership research, ESG analysts are aligned with specific investment teams. This enables ESG analysts to deliver value to the investment teams based upon their specific investment process. Engagement is the hallmark of our stewardship approach and the candidate will play a significant role in working in partnership with our fund managers to engage with company boards, conduct portfolio monitoring and take ideas to investment teams.

The role offers the opportunity to work with a wide variety of our investment teams across asset classes and strategies such as: sustainable investments and solutions, developed and emerging markets, investment trusts, fund of funds and fixed income. This includes funds operating within SFDR and those which may receive sustainability labels within the context of SDR.

The candidate is expected to be adaptable and contribute to the broader requirements of the team. This may include contributing to client reporting, RFP responses, and attending client or industry meetings. With the evolution of ESG and sustainability regulations and best practice frameworks, an understanding and experience of the most significant aspects will be viewed favourably.

We are looking for an individual with creativity and energy. Someone who can collaborate and grasp challenges. The individual will be given freedom to evolve and interact internally and with the wider industry to shape their contribution and development.

Jupiter has invested heavily within its ESG capabilities over the last two years, and this refers to both people and data infrastructure. This is all underpinned by a strategic commitment made by our Board and Executive Committee. We seek an experienced individual who has a deep interest and curiosity in the interaction between financial markets, business and sustainability and can complement our team and thrive within the wider organization.

Key Responsibilities

Support investment desks with ESG research & integration and stewardship activities including:
  • The use and interpretation of ESG data to support investment processes.
  • The use of climate analysis to provide investment insights.
  • Ad-hoc desk requests and if required periodic ESG portfolio reviews.
  • Generate engagement ideas that consider ESG risks and opportunities and support our wider responsible investment commitments.
  • Conduct direct and collaborative engagement with companies to represent client interests.
  • Conduct ESG portfolio reviews.
  • Response to ESG specific client queries
Support strategic initiatives both inside and outside of our direct team that relate to ESG and Sustainability.

Extend expertise and knowledge of key ESG themes across the investment floor including the production of thought leadership investment research that is relevant and impactful for our investment portfolios. The candidate will be expected to focus on a sustainability theme so that over time they can become the go-to-expert for the topic.

Attend client meetings and industry events, as required, to share Jupiter's views and insights.

Play an active role in engaging with our external ESG partners ranging from trade bodies, NGOs, regulators and policy makers to refine processes, enhance industry understanding and best practice.

Develop and maintain relationships with third party ESG vendors with a view to maximising the effectiveness and efficiency from these arrangements and to understand market developments and product innovation.

Desired Skills / Experience
  • Strong analytical ability with an attention to detail. An understanding of investment analysis would be preferable.
  • Understanding of core environmental, social and governance investment drivers and how these impact upon investment risk and the potential for returns. The candidate may bring a detailed knowledge and experience of a particular aspect of sustainability.
  • Data analysis and experience with working with large amounts of ESG data will be viewed favourably.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required along with the ability to adapt one's style and disseminate complex information in a manner which is easy to understand.
  • Strong IT skills including Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with PowerBI, Refinitiv and Bloomberg will be viewed favourably.
  • Ability to work under pressure, work with various stakeholders and build productive relationships with investment professionals and senior management is essential.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to manage one's own time to complete work accurately and to deadlines.
  • Team orientated, flexible and open minded.
