Economics Associate Director

The Pricing and Purchasing team at IHS Markit delivers vital price, cost and inflation information that helps companies save millions of dollars. We do this by dissecting a material cost structure of our clients' suppliers, to provide a detailed analysis of their prices, costs, demand, and productivity. This provides our clients a strategic advantage in negotiating with suppliers, as well as a "blueprint" of when to make big purchases while minimizing risk.

As a member of this growing team, you will develop, enhance, and expand our analyses and forecasts with specific emphasis on translating insights into relevant, actionable client solutions.

Job Responsibilities:
This Associate Director position will lead a small team of economists in our London office and will work closely with our sales team to support current and prospective clients. The candidate will also monitor, forecast, and defend the price outlook for their assigned industry. The candidate will work directly with clients in support of sales, answering ad-hoc pricing questions, demonstrating our price forecast methodology, and explaining our current outlook. Specifically responsibilities include:

  • Manage a team of economist and pricing analysts
  • Coordinate modeling and forecast processes with other internal teams
  • Present forecasts to clients, at conferences and engage with media
  • Support sales efforts
  • Frame and analyze a global industry market (to be assigned) with a particular focus on prices
  • Forecast near-term prices for a global buying audience
  • Create monthly and quarterly reports with emphasis on context and market relevance
  • Respond to clients' research-related questions by providing thought leadership and timely insight

Required Education/Experience:
BA/MA in Economics plus 10+ years of related experience.

Required Skills and Attributes:
  • Managerial experience
  • Customer or commerically-focused background
  • Solid problem-solving skills
  • Strong and adaptable research and analytical skills, including ability to interpret data and research, and write/produce structured, compelling reports
  • Statistical / modeling experience, preferably in E-Views
  • Project management skills; ability to prioritize workloads, meet deadlines under pressure and delegate priorities where appropriate
  • Excellent English speaking and writing capabilities
  • Strong team spirit
