Team
Our sector-based research teams analyse markets worldwide with a goal to be our clients' first call for investment ideas, longer-term thematic pieces and industry expertise. Our research analysts use a variety of methodologies and sources including surveys, industry contacts and public documents, as well as benefiting from perspectives from collaborations with fellow Jefferies analysts following other industries, geographies and asset classes.

Role
Jefferies has a strong Global Industrials franchise and we are now looking to grow our Global Metals and Mining research team within our London office. You will have the opportunity to join the global team and cover a universe of stocks across several geographies and leverage data to produce written research and investment recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities are:
  • To support the Metals and Mining team in meeting its equity research goals and optimizing its operations through the use of data and automation in collaboration with the Data Strategy team;
  • To support the lead analyst in the provision of strong fundamental research allowing us to expand stock coverage, independently generate research ideas, service institutional investors with sufficient intensity to drive vote capture, and support the interface with the Investment Bank and Corporate Broking;
  • Contributing written work to both stock specific and thematic research using quantitative methods of analysis, both as part of the Metals and Mining team and the broader Global Industrials franchise;
  • Assisting the team in meeting client marketing and corporate access requirements;
  • Flexibility with working hours to align schedules with teams in different geography.


Qualifications
Qualifications

The following skills and experience are required for this role:

Required Background
  • A strong academic background is expected, excellent communication skills, plus the drive and determination to excel;
  • Previous experience within the Metals and Mining sector and commodities markets, general familiarity with the global diversified miners and preferably a focus on the US coal sector;
  • Interest in, and experience with using programming languages (Python, R, SQL, Scala) and analytics platforms to analyze alternative data sets and automate business processes;
  • Prior experience in equity markets is preferred;
  • Strong written and inter-personal skills are also required, the latter given that the role will involve direct interaction with institutional and corporate clients;
  • Financial modeling and valuation experience is a must.

Desired Experience / Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably with a focus in Finance, Accounting or Economics;
  • Knowledge of equity and commodity markets;
  • Understanding of financial statements;
  • Python, R, SQL, Scala, Excel;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to work in a time sensitive environment, both independently and in team environment.
