Division Profile

The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm’s books and records, and by contributing to firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley’s various 'industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley’s various businesses and its senior management team.

Job Overview

The Global Space & Occupancy CFO serves as the financial controller and business partner to the Global Corporate Real Estate Management (CREM) Division within Corporate Services and has specific financial responsibility for the firm's approximately $1.4 Billion occupancy spend. The Global Space & Occupancy CFO provides value-added financial review, analysis and reporting to CREM management, front office Business Units and support/control units; as well as collaborates with CREM management to develop project cost plans for the numerous new facilities projects currently being evaluated throughout the globe. In order to provide comprehensive advice and support, the Global Space & Occupancy CFO partners with Legal, Treasury, Tax and Accounting Policy areas.

• Please note - Following a period of 12 months in London, this headcount will transition to New York given that the majority of the stakeholders will be based there, therefore an openness to working and living overseas is key for this role.



- Organize, track and report on long term financial impacts of real estate decisions. Tracking exit costs and incremental capital investment which will provide long term occupancy expense reduction for a multi-year firm wide program related to Morgan Stanley’s future real estate portfolio

- Provide value-added financial review, strategic analysis, forecasting and reporting for real estate related programs

- Lead detailed discussions on the impacts of those assumptions to a diverse group of stakeholders in the back & front office and executive decision makers

- Creation of financial impacts related to complex real estate transactions including sale/leaseback; dispositions; consolidations; acquisitions; renewals; subleases and data centres while ensuring compliance with Firm and relevant accounting policies.

- Focus on firm wide initiatives and long-term (5+ years) planning for Morgan Stanley’s real estate portfolio of the future

- Day-to-day interaction with Corporate Services, Finance and front-office business units to gather assumptions, create and articulate outputs

- Support annual Finance Budget & Forecasting processes by aggregating assumptions and financial information globally


- Extensive Real Estate Modelling Experience, preferably in Financial Services

- Experience in Corporate Services and Corporate Real Estate financial reporting, strategies and their relationship to firm wide financial goals and metrics

- Management of internal and external headcount across multiple locations

- Knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards (including future state) as it relates to bank use Real Estate

- Extensive knowledge of commercial real estate lease and construction practices


- MS Office; Advanced MS Excel, General Ledger software

- Ability to manage to strict deadlines and milestones, work in a team environment, prioritize and handle multiple tasks

- Ability to motivate a team and manage across locations

- Bachelor's degree in a related field (finance, accounting, business, economics, etc.)

- Minimum of seven to ten years of work experience in financial services and/or commercial real estate industry

- Knowledge of lease, reserve and fixed asset accounting (in particular, new lease accounting standards to be implemented in 2019)

- Demonstration of strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills

- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
