The Role Responsibilities

The Head, Model Strategy, Regulatory Interpretation, Governance and Reporting, ERA, develops a model strategy for ERA, considering existing and upcoming regulatory requirements. The role holder establishes a model risk culture supportive of effective model risk management in ERA and drives the implementation of effective governance of model risk of ERA models. He/ she implements metrics of model risk associated with ERA models, and supports the head of ERA and the heads of model categories in establishing effective and risk-aware model portfolio management. He/ she further helps identifying opportunities for model deployment and quantitative analytics in- and outside of ERA and supports such initiatives.

Model Strategy and Regulatory Interpretation
  • Owns the overall architecture and strategy of the ERA model portfolio
  • Identifies dependencies, opportunities and synergies between parts of the model portfolio of ERA
  • Assesses existing and upcoming regulatory requirements to the model portfolio
  • Provides guidance on the interpretation of regulatory requirements related to the model landscape
  • Builds buy-in with senior management on ERA model portfolio strategy
  • Builds buy-in with regulators on matters related to the ERA model portfolio and its governance
Model Risk Governance and Culture
  • Leads the embedding of model risk culture for risk analytics models in ERA
  • Owns the framework for model risk governance and oversight with respect to models of Enterprise Risk Analytics (ERA)
  • Drives communications and training initiatives to establish effective model risk culture and governance
  • Aligns with stakeholders of ERA models, and champions effective use of models
  • Supports the customization of group policies, standards, processes, and infrastructure to their application in ERA
  • Design both input, outcome and perception based qualitative indicators of model risk management, fits them to the ERA model portfolio, and embeds them with model change processes
  • Fosters open communications with intra-group stakeholders and regulators
  • Collaborates with Global Head of Model Risk on the overall model risk framework on a coherent framework, and supports global policy and standard change from an ERA perspective
Regulatory Change Management
  • Monitor change in the regulatory environment to ensure that the standards meet regulatory requirements and expectations, triggers and owns change initiatives to implement new standards
  • Oversees regulatory compliance for regulatory requirements impacting ERA model design, validation, and use
  • Represents the group in industry bodies in areas/ initiatives relevant to the ERA model portfolio
Promotion of use of quantitative models
  • Promotes, champions and supports initiatives for the use of quantitative models inside and outside ERA

Our Ideal Candidate
  • Substantial experience at senior level in the banking industry; Preference for experience in the wholesale/investment banking sector
  • Business Strategy and Model: Sharp business acumen (including ability to assess risk and appropriate levels of return), strong leadership qualities, excellent interpersonal skills and multi-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated track record in successful management and ability to govern processes in geographically dispersed and highly diverse environments.
  • Expertise in designing multidimensional Target Operating Models and governance frameworks. Design of processes and controls in the Risk area.
  • Experience leading transformation and obtaining organisational buy-in.
  • Regulatory Framework and Requirements: Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the firm operates. Experience with the CRR/ PRA regulatory framework essential; in addition, exposure to European, HKMA, MAS regulation preferred.
  • Quantitative skills and modelling experience. Strong understanding of the use of models within a global bank.
  • Significant relationship management experience - with external stakeholders at the most senior levels, including regulators and rating agencies.
  • Regulatory Framework and Requirements: Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the firm operates. Experience with the CRR/ PRA regulatory framework essential; in addition, exposure to European, HKMA, MAS regulation preferred.
  • Strong quantitative skills and modelling experience. Strong understanding of the use of models within a global bank
  • Experience leading highly skilled/ specialist teams
Qualification
  • Qualification related to Risk Management (e.g. GARP FRM) desirable
