The Head of Project Audit provides independent assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of the controls over the projects supporting the Group’s strategic growth agenda. He/she will have demonstrable experience of auditing product delivery products.

Essential Functions

Major duties and responsibilities of the job


  • The Head of Project Audit and his/her team will be involved from the earliest stages of a project and challenge not just the risk and controls but also business decisions and commercial assumptions.
  • Provide independent assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of project controls to support Executive Management and the Board in achieving their objectives.
  • Provide leadership to develop, implement and communicate Internal Audit’s strategy and goals, and interface with all levels of management.


  • Working with the Heads of Business and IT Audit, assist the CIA with the development of the Project Audit Plan – an integral part of the annual Audit Plan – based on an assessment of the key risks across the CLS Group.
  • Deliver timely project audit reporting to management; apprise the CIA and Executive Management of significant risk, control and thematic issues relating to the internal control environment.
  • Maintain continuous monitoring with senior management to ensure emerging risks and control issues from key projects and new business activities are incorporated into the Project Audit Plan.
  • Provide assurance over business commitment to the remediation of issues impacting the internal control environment; ensure that all key open and overdue audit issues are monitored and escalated to the CIA and Executive Management.
  • Ensure adherence to the Institute of Internal Auditors’ (IIA) International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) guidance and relevant regulatory guidance, e.g. FFIEC, Reg HH, Interagency Policy Statements on Internal Audit (SR03-5, SR13-1) etc.
  • Assist the CIA in maintaining a continuous Quality Assurance and Improvement Program QAIP that covers all aspects of the audit process and monitors the ongoing effectiveness of the audit activities.


  • Maintain and manage a professional Project Audit Team.
  • Proactively manage the relationships with external auditors and consultants to ensure adequate audit coverage; assist the CIA to manage relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Coach and train the Project Audit Team, including performance management of the team.




Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Competencies required for successful job performance

  • Ability to think on a broad scale about issues affecting the company, not just those related to Internal Audit or the control environment.
  • Project and staff management skills; proven track record of managing a team.

Essential Qualifications

Experience, education and any certifications as necessary for successful job performance

Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Business Management or Finance/Accounting.

Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

Project Management/Governance qualification (Prince2 Practitioner or Foundation level).

Experience of working in financial services sector (esp. Banking/ FX).

Experience of dealing with Executive Management.

Experience of managing relationships with the regulator.

Desired Qualifications

IT Audit qualification.

Knowledge of US Banking Regulations (Federal Reserve Board).

Experience of dealing with Audit and Board Committees.

Graduate Degree (MBA).

Chartered Accountant or CPA.
