Job Description:

Working within the European Leveraged Finance Group, the candidate will have responsibility for maintaining and improving analytical tools to support analysis and ensuring accurate data availability on European high yield bond, leveraged loan and private debt markets across Fitch's internal corporate databases and external third party data providers.

 

The role will be primarily focused on publishing serial reports and presentations on European leveraged credit market trends and data developments for a global audience of fixed income, private debt and structured credit investors.  

 

The successful candidate will have responsibility for building, maintaining and improving excel-based analytical tools and performing data analysis for research purposes, including development of default rate and issuance databases and forecasts.  It will entail wide exposure to market and issuer-specific trends across all European leveraged credit asset classes and will require coordination and collaboration with European leveraged credit analysts, sector teams within European corporates as well as counterparts in US leveraged finance.  

 

The role will not have any analytical ratings coverage although participation in rating and credit opinion committees will be encouraged.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Take primary ownership in maintaining Fitch's Leveraged Credit analytical tools, including default and issuance databases and forecast models, and ensuring internal data accuracy.

 

Compile monthly and ad-hoc reports for internal and external information purposes and cross sector and regional research publications. 

 

Demonstrate strong modelling skills. Expert knowledge of Excel and proficiency in VBA, database knowledges (Access/ SQL) and Bloomberg is required and command of Python and / or R programming is a prerequisite.

 

Show independent thought and insight on credit trends and the ability to identify and present key factors driving those trends.

 

Data analysis to support cross sector and cross-regional research publications.

Deliver quality outputs to internal and external parties within defined deadlines.

 

Keep fully up to date with market/industry developments and proactively manage his/her research portfolio in response to market events. This includes identifying and discussing these with senior analysts.

 

Conduct work in compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications and experience:

 

To apply you must be able to demonstrate strong financial analysis skills, including strong accounting skills, corporate credit knowledge and identifying forward-looking trends and interpreting drivers for past market trends.

 

Excel modelling and charting skills are essential, notably being able to analyse large datasets through pivot tables and macros, with proficiency in VBA programming critical.

 

Data mining on Bloomberg.

 

Extensive industry / research / accounting experience is not a prerequisite so long as the candidate has good self-learning capabilities.

 

Naturally you must be fluent in all forms of written and spoken English; further knowledge of other languages would be beneficial.
