Institutional Client Business (ICB)

The UK Institutional Market is the largest, most mature market in EMEA with total UK Pensions Assets totalling over $5 Trillion. BlackRock has a large established presence in the UK and today, manages c. $400BN on behalf of UK Institutional Clients. Our global platform, the breadth of our investment expertise and risk management capabilities enable us to provide differentiated solutions to our clients including Liability Driven Investing and whole-portfolio solutions.

As BlackRock continues to build out our investment platform, we are looking for a highly experienced sales and relationship manager to drive the Strategic Team's accelerated growth. This role will develop and execute a growth strategy that responds to client needs and market shifts. The leader will be accountable for driving a portfolio of large client relationships across the Strategic segment to 'deliver the firm'. He/She will also leverage and align with partner functions, such as Global Consultant Relations to meet the needs of our UK clients.

The successful candidate will a proven sales and relationship manager with a strong track record of establishing and growing senior client relationships, ideally building and motivating high performance sales teams, and achieving commercial success at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Play a significant role in developing and articulating a strategic vision and plan for the UK Strategic business which identifies key growth opportunities
  • Ensure strategy and near-term objectives are understood and owned by the Strategic team
  • Deliver against financial metrics as agreed with Head of Strategic Clients
  • Deliver the full breadth of the firm across all capabilities (Active portfolio management, EII, CPS, BRS, TRIM, Cash etc.) to Strategic Institutional Clients
  • Create alignment across Sales, Product Strategy, Investments and partner groups to develop and apply consistent pricing strategy
  • Execute proactive defence/pivot strategies for at-risk assets
  • Increase accessibility and utilization of firm capabilities by UK strategic clients e.g. BII thought leadership, BEA, peer studies etc.
  • Along with the Head of the Strategic team, lead and manage the Strategic team to maximize their potential and success
  • Foster a consistent inclusive culture throughout BlackRock and act as a role model of the BlackRock principles
  • Identify and proactively develop future senio talent through coaching, mentoring and leveraging of BlackRock programs
  • Establish an external market presence (via media, client & industry events) which reinforces BlackRock's commitment to the UK Pension Funds and the communities we serve
  • Partner closely with Consultant Relations to position BlackRock capabilities, maximize opportunities and drive growth
  • Work with partner functions (Marketing, Client Service, Tech & Ops) to align resources and focus with the Strategic and ICB growth plan


Qualifications:

  • An established track record in institutional relationship management and fundraising, preferably in building and maintaining a large, complex strategic or similar business
  • Vast industry and investment knowledge. Deep expertise across a wide range of traditional and alternative Investment products. Strong awareness of key issues affecting institutional investors. A thorough understanding of our competitors and their Strategic offerings
  • Strong proven leadership capability; ability to inspire and motivate a sales team
  • An established network of industry relationships, and their key stakeholder
  • BA/BS degree in related field (quantitative subject, Economics, Finance or Accounting). Advanced degree/CFA is desired


Skills/Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of the UK pension fund market, investment industry and competitive landscape
  • Operate at a strategic level with Investment Committee Chairs, Finance Directors, consultants, independent advisors, administrators and other third-party stakeholders
  • Has an in-depth understanding of client issues, proactively position appropriate products, and offer timely solutions
  • Deep technical understanding of investments and ability to lead portfolio management teams to deliver commercially sensible solutions to clients
  • Strong results-orientation and process skills - can proactively develop a large number of relationships both internally and externally
  • Experience in a process driven, risk-controlled environment
  • Passionate representative of BlackRock at client conferences/industry forums
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a strategic mindset and a bias for action
