Official Institutions Specialist
Who we're looking for

We are looking for a new Official Institutions Specialist in our London office to get involved in research, business development, client support and training. A high level of initiative is crucial in this role as you will need the ability to produce research, business development and training materials independently.

Additionally, from time to time the role may also involve work with other elements of the Strategic Client Group such as Global Financial Clients, Research and Analytics, and Insurance.

The base

We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We're close to our clients, in the heart of the UK's financial centre. We offer flexible working appropriate for a client solutions focussed role.

The team

The Official Institutions team is responsible for building business and managing relationships with Schroders' government clients worldwide, including sovereign wealth funds, central banks and national pension funds. It sits within the Strategic Client Group, which is a newly formed team within Distribution that provides specialist channel expertise in support of our local, generalist distribution activities, as well as complex account management and client service.

What you'll do

Research and thought leadership

- Research and write OI thought leadership papers independently. This includes conducting analysis, literature reviews and writing the papers
- Prepare client-specific research in response to client requests. This could include topics such as best practice asset allocation, OI trends, credit risk management and ESG.

Business development

- Responsibility for maintaining a presentation covering the key themes and trends in this channel to support the wider distribution team and senior management in client engagement. This would include market research on particular regions/countries and use of OI databases such as SWFI and SWC
- Responsibility for identifying key contacts within the London branches/offices of the Official Institutions and building relationships with relevant individuals to support our business development efforts, with a particular focus on private assets
- The candidate will be expected to work towards being able to conduct business development visits to clients, providing updates and gathering information on client and prospect developments

Training and conferences

- Manage OI seminars including putting together the agenda, liaising with speakers and marketing, preparing invitations and managing registration.
- Prepare client-specific training agendas and support in the delivery of this.

Client support

- Respond to ad hoc client requests (both direct requests and indirect requests through regional sales/client teams) and work with the Client Executives in troubleshooting where necessary. This requires ability to source information independently, accurately and in a timely manner, often sourcing information from other teams.
- Host client visits, both at a technical level (e.g. training visits) as well as at senior levels (e.g. CIO visits) where required, including meeting preparation and management (e.g. collating speaker presentations, printing etc.) In some cases, this will require independently hosting these visits.
- Own, maintain and improve the OI database in both Access and Salesforce, which details all OIs, asset allocations, objectives, mandates and portfolios. This includes updating the database on a quarterly basis and looking at ways we can improve our reporting. Work with the salesforce and data insights teams to ensure the OI channel data is incorporated within group-wide management information.

The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need

• Business experience in a major diversified financial services company
• A business development approach that is highly dedicated to clients and solutions rather than product/fund with demonstrable commercial acumen
• A team player with strong internal and external networking skills
• Strong personal presence, excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Flexible and adaptable working style; persuasiveness and negotiation skills of particular importance.

The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help

• CFA charterholder
• Prior experience in client-facing role within Distribution or Product
• Some understanding of data tools such as Excel, Access, R, Tableau, etc. would be desirable, but at a minimum, a willingness to learn
