Operational Manager

Description of role and key responsibilities
As the leader of the Operations Team, your teams will support the back end infrastructure for many of the banking applications. You will collaborate with multiple Business Units and Application Owners, Developers, and Infrastructure Engineers. You'll work in a high-paced environment designed to let you provide solutions to support the business infrastructure.
This position allows you to build on a well distributed Global Support team using existing processes, plans, and enhancing or introducing new processes where required. The technologies are predominantly "on-prem" but starting to grow into Amazon Web Services and Azure.
You will continue to build a team of top engineers who have the ability to address production issues within agreed SLA's. You will introduce technology choices for infrastructure operations, finding a balance between "bleeding edge" and "tried and tested", whilst keeping an eye on maintainability as well as innovation.

Professional expertise to own and drive the people, process, and technology used by the company to maintain high availability systems (always-up, always-available).
Day-to-day, you will:

  • Manage and lead the Infrastructure Support team to achieve businesses objectives.
  • Manage and lead Information Security operations team supporting the info sec strategy
  • Manage and lead Database Administration Operations team to achieve business objectives.
  • To ensure that the organisation's IT infrastructure and databases is highly availability, and maintained according to best practice and internal guidelines
  • Provide leadership and expertise working proactively with other areas within IT and the broader business to ensure an optimally managed operational environment
  • Ensure continuous improvement of the services provided. To ensure a high quality customer focussed service to all sites (remote and local)
  • To ensure support targets and KPI's are met and that service levels and users expectations achieved.
  • Ensure IT system availability with proactive alert management. Ensure all production alerts are managed to resolution.
  • Capacity management. Provide monthly reports and metrics on system availability and liaise with IT engineering teams to ensure requirements can meet growth.
  • Incident management. Manage system outages and ownership of resolution.
  • Ensure major incidents reports are accurate and to a high level of detail.
  • Ensure system backups are aligned to recovery time objectives.
  • Ensure optimal system performance and compliance with service level agreements.
  • Liaise with 3 rd parties and engage in service management meetings.
  • Ensure that Service Level Agreements (SLA's) between Business and IT are met
  • Manage the function that supports the organizations internal information security vulnerability program
  • Manage the function that provides the organizations privilege access management function
Core Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience with systems databases and IT operations
  • A strong focus on business outcomes (Communicating and collaborating with others)
  • Experience with automated deployments to AWS or other cloud infrastructures using popular frameworks and technologies (Terraform, Jenkins, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Knowledge of standard methodologies and IT operations in an always-up, always-available, self-healing service
  • Any experience managing teams responsible for Splunk, CyberArk, Nessus, Tennable, McAfee EPO a bonus
  • A flexible, can-do attitude with a willingness and aptitude for learning
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ensure all systems are scanned for security vulnerabilities and patched to an agreed cycle
  • Will work closely with the Information Security Officer and team to leverage knowledge and resources to manage security operations aspects of the role
  • Ensure the operational aspects of information security applications are maintained, supported and always providing agreed levels of risk mitigation
  • Any experience managing teams responsible for Splunk, CyberArk, Nessus, Tennable, McAfee EPO a bonus
