The Role

You will work closely with the Head of Operational Risk Identification to implement the risk management framework across the business. Support the Operational Risk team you will be involved in identifying and escalating heightened or out of appetite operational risks together with a clear set of recommendations to address these.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Operational Risk Identification in maintaining a clear set of guidance that is provided to senior management with respect to risk exposures so that a clear statement of appetite can be developed for each.
  • Review, challenge and provide
    • finalised results to the Head of Operational Risk Identification for approval of the risk and control self-assessments performed by first line of defence.
    • finalised results to the Head of Operational Risk Identification for approval of the monitoring measurement developed by first line of defence.
    • finalised results to the Head of Operational Risk Identification for approval of the new products developed, client take-ons, transformation projects and other key corporate change activities highlighting the risks identified.
  • Review and challenge recommendations received from the business to manage risks back within appetite.
  • Escalate to the Head of Operational Risk Identification where actions to mitigate risks back within appetite have not been agreed with the business owner.
  • Prepare risk profile reports for Committee packs and submit to the Head of Operational Risk Identification for approval.
  • Work closely with the operational risk reporting team to determine whether control enhancements can be delivered and that there is a collective increase in understanding of the firm's overall risk exposures.
  • Work closely with the operational risk reporting team to provide risk reporting to the Head of Operational Risk Identification that focuses on the key issues and recommendations to address such issues.
  • Provide the finalised operational risk capital requirements to the Head of Operational Risk Identification for review and challenge.
  • Support to the Operational Risk team in developing guidance in risk management to the business.
  • Engagement at an early stage in new product development, client take-on, transformation projects and other key corporate change activity in order that risks are clearly identified and understood.
  • Close relationship with risk and business resources to ensure control enhancements can be delivered and there is a collective increase in understanding of the firm's overall risk profile.
  • Work closely with first line of defence during product development, client take-owns, transformation projects and other key corporate change activities for appropriate risk identification
  • Work with, and provide guidance to, the first line of defence in terms of defence during the risk and control self-assessments performance and to develop the appropriate monitoring measurements in response to risk exposures and tolerances.
  • Escalate material operational risks clearly to the Head of Operational Risk Identification, including rapid notification of material events as well as supporting targeted and concise periodic risk reporting and development of the operational risk capital requirements.
  • Be seen internally and externally (clients, peers, regulators) as a person with a strong knowledge of operational risk.

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree educated with relevant professional qualification
  • Good knowledge of the asset management industry and the risks associated with this.
  • Good knowledge of operational risk management frameworks and practices across asset management and other financial sectors.
  • Knowledge of the workings of the FCA and other global regulators, in particular an understanding of their key concerns and how this translates into their objectives in overseeing operational risk management
  • Has a good appreciation of working globally and is sensitive to cultural diversity.
  • Relevant experience and strong asset management background.
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
