Job Description Using strong investment and operational knowledge, the Portfolio and Trade Support Specialist will perform hybrid duties for both the Portfolio Specialist & Trading Support teams. The team of specialists provide coverage to the investment teams, performing a specialized set of duties related to the portfolio management, order entry process, as well as trade date matching of all asset classes. Based on instruction from the portfolio management team, the Specialist will create and prepare equity, fixed income, derivative and currency trade orders for the Trading department. The role requires monitoring of significant upcoming cash flows and account transitions while assisting in the implementation of any instruction provided by the investment teams

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Use MFS Proprietary Global Modeling tool to create cash management equity program order baskets which facilitate raising or spending cash, bringing portfolios in-line with a model fund, or loading a quantitative solutions transaction model, based on specific instructions received from the Portfolio Manager. The baskets are prepared and independently checked for quality control before handing off to trading for execution
  • Acting with specific instructions, provide support to the equity and fixed income investment teams by creating or modifying orders in the trading systems and ensuring accuracy prior to execution by the Trading Department. Specific order types include but are not limited to the following: Option assignments, Alternative Fund order entry, derivative transactions, commodity structured notes, trade error corrections, currency transactions and quantity changes
  • Work closely with the Global Client and Investment Risk Monitoring team and portfolio management to resolve portfolio investment guideline, client restriction or other compliance related matters. Ensures the Portfolio Manager is aware of any and all compliance issues effecting his/her original order instructions, makes any adjustments per the manager's instruction, and shepherds the order to the trading blotter for execution by equity trading
  • Works closely with Global Client Administration and GIS Transition Management teams to monitor client cash flow and transition activity to ensure any special processing requirements directed by clients or investment teams are carried out as directed
  • Monitor email communication between the investment team, trading and portfolio specialist team to ensure all manager order instructions are acknowledged, understood, and prioritized for timely and accurate completion. Acts as liaison between investment teams and GIS (Global Investment and Client Support) in the swift resolution of any order entry or modification, or transition related issues
  • Using Omgeo CTM, confirms all daily trading activity, including Cash (Equity and Fixed Income) and Derivative securities. Is responsible for all trade date matching duties on the day the trades are executed to ensure Straight Through Processing
  • Communicates market data to traders and appropriate individuals in an accurate and timely manner. Handles all phone calls into the trading desk from sell side broker operations and sales offices, MFS Operations, MFS Compliance and MFS Fund Treasury area
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and preferred 5- 7 years of related investment and trading operations experience
  • Proven expertise in equity, fixed income and derivative security types
  • Experience with MFS proprietary trading systems desired
  • Proven ability to perform job responsibilities independently and effectively in a demanding environment. Attention to detail and accuracy required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Must have flexibility around work schedule
