Private Debt - Origination/Transaction Execution

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a corporate debt professional to join Aviva Investors' Alternative Income Solutions (AIS) Private Corporate Debt team. Candidates will need to possess a core understanding of corporate credit lending across a range of sectors.

The Role

This is a permanent role based in our head office in the City of London. You will have responsibility for analysing and executing corporate credit transactions, with a primary focus on leveraged loans that meet the needs of client mandates.

The Team

Alternative Income Solutions is part of our Global Investment Solutions business which incorporates Investment Strategy and Liability Driven Investment teams.

The Alternative Income Solutions business within Aviva Investors is a growing team of around 120 FTEs and originates, underwrites and manages private assets across real estate finance, infrastructure debt, infrastructure equity, private corporate debt and structured finance. The Aviva Investors Alternative Income Solutions business currently manages over £20bn across these private asset classes.

The Portfolio Corporate Debt team consists of 8 people within Alternative Income Solutions and has responsibility for the origination, execution and ongoing credit stewardship for a range of corporate debt assets as part of single and multi-asset private asset strategies.

Alternative Income Solutions is an award-winning business and recent industry accolades include FT Pension and Investment Provider Infrastructure Equity winner (2017), Insurance Asset Risk Innovation winner (2018) & Real Estate Capital Insurance Lender of the Year runner-up (2018).

Key Responsibilities & Skills

  • The execution of leveraged loan transactions, mainly in support of UK mid-market financial sponsors where primary deal flow stems from a lending alliance with a market leading bank.
  • Key focus will be on analysing new transactions including credit selection, leading and/or supporting the presentation to first and second stage investment committees as well as transaction execution responsibilities such as term sheet and legal review.
  • Ability to write concise and analytical credit reports capturing the key business, market, financial and deal structuring aspects using both third party and public due diligence sources.
  • Role will also involve an element of ongoing credit monitoring responsibilities and exposure to other corporate credit asset classes (i.e. private placements).
  • A good understanding of typical lender controls and LMA documentation is also required.
  • There will also be an opportunity to support capital raising initiatives.

Candidate Requirements

This role is ideally suited to you if you can demonstrate:

  • Relevant degree or degree-equivalent. CFA or ACA qualification desired but not essential;
  • Experience of working on highly leveraged corporate transactions;
  • Strong fundamental credit skills are essential as is an ability to clearly articulate an investment rationale;
  • Candidates are likely to have worked in an origination or portfolio management role at a Corporate Bank or a UK mid-market debt advisory team;
  • Highly motivated self-starter who is able to confidently communicate with a range of stakeholders (credit, fund managers, our lending partner, management teams);
  • Ability to interpret and model key financial statements - balance sheet, P&L and cash flow statements;
  • Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and work under pressure;
  • Team oriented person with a desire to contribute to the growth of the business.
