The Programme Manager, Europe Risk will have responsibility for the management and design of key programmes of work including the execution and implementation of Global & Regional Business Transformation as defined in the Europe Risk Book of Work.

This role will work closely with Global & Regional teams, Global Risk Chief Operating Officers and the Europe/HBUK Risk Management Teams. This role will work on strategic programmes and will work with Senior Managers of the Risk function in driving key strategic design for Risk. This role will be part of the Europe Risk Transformation Team and report to the Europe Risk Head of Transformation.

The Programme Manager, Europe Risk will have three main areas of focus:

  1. Driving Europe Risk business transformation initiatives through to implementation. This would include:
  • Determining scope of initiatives and deliver on agreed outcomes including business design, operating models, role analysis, process & systems mapping
  • Providing expert SME for business design and scope
  • Engaging with stakeholders to create buy-in for the design and initiatives
  • Anticipating and identifying existing or emerging risks/issues
  • Resource management and project governance oversight
  • Providing guidance, decision making and priority setting (within bounds of responsibilities)
  • Executing against the standard HSBC Project Methodologies (BTF, Agile)
  • Promoting pace and energy within the team and leading by example

  1. Supporting the Europe Risk COO in developing and delivering the strategy for Europe Risk and Global Risk and being seen as one of the key drivers of the programmes.

  1. Engagement with Central Programme Teams and Global Business & Global Function representatives.
  • Breadth of Perspective - demonstrates keen awareness of market trends and best practices, incorporates multiple perspectives and broader picture in evaluating and solving problems
  • Commercial Awareness - demonstrates a broad understanding of the businesses' products and services
  • Impact & Influence - uses in-depth understanding of the organisation to manoeuvre the matrix to garner stakeholder buy-in and balance competing demands
  • Initiative & Quality Orientation - self-starting rather than passively accepting; continuously focuses on providing quality products, services and results; complies with prevailing requirement and procedures; follows through initiatives with attention to detail to achieve set targets and standards


    • Good understanding of the Business Transformation Framework, Agile and best practice techniques
    • Understanding of HSBC Group structures, processes and objectives
    • Understanding of HSBC's strategy and how change drives benefits for HSBC, its customers and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the external environment - regulatory, political, competitors etc


  • Evidence of confidently operating at a Management Level
  • Proven ability to work across teams and in a matrix management environment
  • Demonstration of commerciality with strong financial acumen
  • Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and business sponsors
  • Previous experience of working in a Risk role or knowledge of the Risk function and its practices
