Quant Developer – eTrading (Associate)

 

My client is a global investment bank and one of the leaders in the electronic trading across fixed income, currencies and commodities.  The team are responsible for the development and architectural design of the electronic trading framework. The core components produced by this team are used to construct high-performance cross-asset market applications (e.g. automated quoting, hedging, etc.) by other front office e-teams.  They are looking for a junior level candidate for the team.  This is a Java based, front office role for someone with strong technical/development skills, working on the core framework components used in the in-house graph base e-trading engine.  They are not expecting a Java specialist, but a bright, enthusiastic candidate with strong problem solving and technical skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Design and implement core electronic trading platform components.
  • Research use of new technologies and approaches as part of continuous improvement strategy.
  • Close interaction with quantitative research e-teams to understand their requirements, and assist in investigations of issues relating to core components (e.g. performance).
  • Work with management to determine time estimates and priorities for projects.
  • Develop robust and reliable testing strategies
  • Provide guidance on issues relating to quality control of code and production release cycles.

 

Skills & Qualifications

 

  • Top academic background (DEA/MSc/PhD) in mathematics/physics/computer science from a leading academic institution
  • Innovative with a “start-up” mentality
  • Outstanding implementation skills in an object orientated programming language (backed up by significant programming experience in an industrial context working on large projects)
  • Active interest in design of system architecture
  • Strong quantitative programming skills
  • Excellent problem solving / debugging skills
  • Good understanding of concurrent application design
  • Experience of Java, C# or C++ are an advantage
  • Good communication skills in English (other languages advantageous)
  • Pragmatic approach to ensuring delivery on a timely basis
  • Financial and product knowledge is an advantage
