The Research Analyst will play a crucial role in maintenance and enhancement of the newly created YTF content in IHS Markit's flagship Vantage Asset Valuation product.

Key aspects of the role are to

  • maintain the company's inventory of Yet-To-Find (YTF) resources across the world's YTF locations. This will be through the application of a variety of appropriate techniques and methodologies, full use of the company's databases and validating with in-house expertise.
  • establish and co-ordinate the company's view on forthcoming exploration activity and likely success rates
  • generate and input appropriately sized and attributed entities into the Vantage product and ensure the product is delivering content as intended.
  • work together with other teams to maintain the Company's view on exploration and appraisal well costs and seismic activity.

This role will reside in the Upstream Supply organisation to enable maximum collaboration and co-ordination of the company's YTF analysis to take place

Knowledge and Skills
  • Degree in Geology, or Petroleum Engineering. Graduate degree preferred.
  • At least two to five years working experience in the oil and gas industry with an Operator or consultancy.
  • Strong knowledge of the E&P business process, .Exposure to the global exploration business and the interplay between activity and geology is vital. A strong understanding of basins, plays, fields and wells; and knowledge of asset modeling and project economics essential.
  • Includes an ability to take into account above as well as below ground considerations to prepare forecasts.
  • Ability to cope comfortably with large datasets and create new workflows and databases as required. A high level of proficiency with VBA, MS Access databases and Excel for data management and analysis is essential.
  • Other Required skill(s): Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Highly aAnalytical, quantitative, and able to see the big picture and draw conclusions by synthesizing and digesting large sets of data.
  • Purely technical subsurface knowledge and skills are not sufficient; a sense of the commercial and strategic aspects of the global upstream business and an ability to describe same.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are critical to this position.

Required language(s): English (Outstanding writing skills in international business English). International languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Chinese and/or Russian are a major plus.
