At MFS the Equity Research Associate Program is designed to allow associates to become fully immersed in the investment management world of stock picking. The Equity Research Associates work with the fundamental equity research team and gather information on companies to augment the coverage of the analysts, in this instance coverage and work will relate primarily to the Financials, Telecom and Infrastructure sectors. Following 2-4 years in the Equity Research Associate Program, the candidate typically moves into an analyst role within MFS or pursues a post-graduate program.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Support the Equity Research Analyst in daily activities and custom projects in order to provide leverage to the Analyst; focus will be primarily on the financial, telecom & infrastructure sector
• Financial modeling, analysis, and maintenance of company and sector-specific models / databases
• Gathers information about companies by interviewing suppliers, customers, government agencies, sell side analysts, etc… this can be done over the telephone (i.e. expert calls) or may require travel
• Gathers and synthesizes information from multiple sources to assess a company’s growth prospects, competitive position, management, etc. and afterwards presents finding to research analyst
• Collects financial data from databases and interview process to be utilized in financial modeling
• Assumes additional projects and responsibilities as required (e.g. case studies, sector presentations)
• Acts as conduit for cross-industry research between the various members of the sector team


Job Requirements:

• Exceptional analytical skills and intimate familiarity with financial statements
• Ability to work independently and manage complex projects on their own
• Demonstrated passion for equity investing and the stock market
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal
• Relevant full-time experience
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree / progress towards CFA
• Ability to travel


Qualifications:

• One to three years' experience of analyzing / working with financial statements within the Financials/Banks sector; can be on the investment banking, consulting, or sell/buy-side
• Sound financial analysis skills such as building and maintaining a full financial model in Microsoft Excel as well as ability to work and document information in Microsoft Word and Power Point
• Exceptional analytical skills and ability to compile and process large amounts of information
• Creative problem solving and ability to work independently on stock analysis & complex projects
• Ability to work within a team as well as coordinate work streams with other global associates
• A university degree and a strong interest in developing a career in buy-side equity research
