The position entails being a part of dynamic database team that is responsible for the day to day database administration of all production and end user systems. Managing SQL relational database management system, implementation, configuration, maintenance, automation and optimization, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our enterprise applications, and on-time delivery of projected software upgrade and releases of our mission-critical electronic trading system. This is a unique combination requiring solid experience as an operational as well as an application DBA on Microsoft SQL Server platform. Candidates must be self-motivated and possess strong analytical and communication skills. The role requires off-hours and weekend availability when on-call.
Essential Functions and Duties:
Production support database, servers, and terabytes of mission-critical data
Key focus on day-to-day operation of data and database administration, and related application
Monitor and maintain system health, performance and security
Perform backup and restore operations, take part in DR drills
Timely deploy new code and changes into all company's environments (production, staging, Demo, QA, etc) as part of application database upgrade and release rollout
Actively monitor database maintenance job status (ie. backup, DBCC, reindex, etc.),
Assist and perform tuning, benchmarking, application testing and diagnostics
Support uptime of database servers, troubleshoot issues e.g. excessive resource usage, latency, unexpected log growth.
Automation for patching, maintenance, space issues, upgrade, query issues etc. with Perl, Python, and tooling.
Replication setup, maintaining, monitoring, troubleshoot and resolution
participate in 24x7 on-call rotation
Independently analyze, troubleshoot, solve, and correct issues in real time
BS degree in a computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline
Minimum 5-7 Years of experience and knowledge of:
Production operation, supporting large scale, low latency, OLTP
Databases and Application Data
hands-on experience with SQL Server replication
In-depth knowledge of Windows and SQL Utilities
Proficiency with MS SQL Server 2012, 2016/2017 a plus
Experience with Cluster, Always-On Availability group a plus
Understanding of underlying infrastructure in which databases reside, ie storage,
Network,Firewalls, Load balancers, Application servers, Web servers, various DR solutions
Experience in performing database upgrades, SDLC,
Understanding of Change and Incident Management processes
Automation for DB tasks with Python or Perl a plus
T-SQL programming, Stored Procedures, views, ETL, SSIS
Performance, tuning and optimization
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Detail-orientated, good organization, comprehensive analysis
Multi-tasking, Time Management, strong sense of urgency when it comes to criticality
Experience in financial industry is a plus
MS Certification(s) is a plus
Technical ability; product knowledge; results focused; team oriented; communication skills.
Core working hours are 8am-5.30pm, however you will be required to provide support outside of these hours as required.
