We are working with a leading specialist within (re)insurance broking who are looking for a Sanctions Officer to join their Management Services team and report directly to the Head of Risk and Compliance. The role will be focused on maintaining effective sanction screening and controls and monitor adherence to financial crime related policies and procedures.

The role requires the candidate to keep abreast of regulatory and legislative changes and assist in advising on the impact of any applicable FCA Consultative Papers, Policy Statements, Rule changes, EU and other directives and any other guidance/ requirements relating to financial crime and sanctions. Enhanced due diligence and screening checks on new business entities as well as investigating/ escalating alerts raised as a result of sanctions screenings. You will be expected to proactively communicate changes which may impact policies; business processes; management and compliance risk management controls. Further responsibilities include assist with the preparation of timely and accurate meeting packs, registers, reports and notifications for the Company relating to sanctions and high-risk screening. Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of financial crime related processes, in particular escalation processes between the business and the Compliance Team.

Required Skills

  • CII certified (or working towards)
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment within which insurance operates and the sanctions and financial crime related requirements it must meet.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the insurance industry is preferred.
  • A proven understanding of and experience in making business decisions based on applicable sanctions regimes, in particular sanctions expectations under EU/HM Treasury, OFAC, UN and the Export Control Order 2008, and the awareness of the risks associated with Politically Exposed People.
  • Proven experience working in the financial services sector within a sanctions role is essential.
  • Experience within a sanctions role in an insurance broking firm – or a consultancy providing advisory services to insurance firms – is preferred.

Salary between £45,000 - £55,000 plus competitive benefits
