Senior Counsel GS, VP
Purpose of Role
This is a senior role in the GS UKMEA legal team, advising the GS UKMEA and EMEA business on all legal aspects of their activities, and includes engaging with senior and executive management in the business and legal, as well as compliance, risk and other control functions.

Role specifics
  • Leading on all legal aspects of large outsourcing transactions, and complex UK and cross-border service arrangements, covering depositary/custody, fund accounting, investment analytics, collateral management and other ancillary services
  • Advising on the legal implications of regulations applicable to the GS UKMEA and EMEA business' operations and/or the services that it provides, including AIFMD, UCITS and the FCA rules (including CASS, COBS, COLL and FUND)
  • Advising on legal issues related to new business development initiatives, including negotiating and drafting heads of terms documents, attending client presentation meetings and reviewing and advising on RFP documentation
  • Working with senior and executive legal, business, risk and compliance stakeholders to ensure that outcomes meet the requirements, priorities and deadlines of the business
  • Proactively providing local support to corporate legal initiatives, new product and business developments, including drafting new template agreements and advising on product regulatory aspects
  • Collaborate with and coordinate input from lawyers in other business lines and jurisdictions
  • Instructing and managing external counsel

Skills and Experience
  • City law firm background
  • Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation, written and verbal communication skills, ability to formulate legal advice and positions clearly and concisely in a commercial environment
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment pertaining to UK authorised funds (UCITS and AIFs) and investment services
  • Highly solution-oriented, intellectual flexibility to work through complex issues with multiple stakeholders and to propose workable solutions within tight deadlines
  • Quick learner and team player with a proactive 'can do' approach
  • Ability to build good relationships with variety of stakeholders
