The KDB team is looking to improve the architecture of their existing market and trade capture system. Allowing it to scale to capture more data sets required by the business. Then to expand to taking responsibility for developing applications/analytics on-top of that data. To help fulfil that goal they are looking for KDB Developers with experience of developing robust distributed systems, in particular those with a strong knowledge of Kdb+ and a solid foundation of computer science. Initially the role will focus on productionising the existing system and re-architecting parts to allow it to scale.

KDB Developer - Job Background/Context:

Initially the role will focus on productionising the existing system and re-architecting parts to allow it to scale.

The eTrading business is a technology driven business, which presents a unique opportunity where advances and innovations in the engineering are directly visible to the trading business. You will work closely with expert developers, quant analysts and traders as well as various operational teams.

KDB Developer - Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop key components of the target state architecture.
  • Work with the business, production services and application development teams to expand applications of the platform
  • Migrate a number of Legacy systems from an old code base to the modern standardised framework.
  • Take responsibility for full SDLC delivery of sizable components/deliverables.
  • Document business requirements and process and where appropriate, carry out testing to ensure requirements are met.
  • Manage and resolve risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Continual improvement of the software development life cycle and quality of the product.
  • Ad-hoc and on-desk support of the production systems (a dedicated 24h support team handles 1st line).
  • Ensures project delivery is in conformance with company methodologies and standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Good degree in computing science or a scientific subject from a top tier University.
  • Business Knowledge is useful but not required
  • Experienced Kdb Developer
  • Capable of implementing an enterprise scale tick capture system
  • Experienced at writing production quality code with tests and documentation
  • Linux/Bash Scripting knowledge
  • Enterprise architecture: x86 server, Linux, network devices, protocols and configuration
  • Performance measurement and tuning
  • Experience of scrum based SDLC
  • Including tools such as Team City, Maven, BitBucket, GIT.
  • Experience of managing production change process in a safety or regulatory critical environment
  • Distributed Systems Technologies - Messaging, Caching, Database.
  • Understanding of computing science fundamentals - concurrency, algorithms, operating systems
  • Process and tools to produce well written low defect rate code.
