We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead our Device Controls team, building solutions to support the reliable control of devices within our Device Data Centers.
You will own and be accountable for the delivery, maintenance and reliable operation of device control mechanisms that enable remote and programmatic access to Smart devices such as TVs, set-top-boxes, games consoles and streaming sticks. You will be responsible for building and scaling the control software, control appliances and AWS services to meet both Prime Video and Amazon worldwide needs.
Our device data centers are a core operation that enables Prime video and other Amazon streaming applications to build delightful experiences for our customers. We host hundreds of Living Room devices and expose them through simple APIs that enable developers, testers and non-technical staff to build, enhance, deploy, test and improve Amazon Living Room experiences. We are a mission critical system and used worldwide.
The ideal candidate should be passionate about working with devices (both third party and custom-built appliances) as well as creating simple and innovative software solutions that bridge cloud services with on-premise software. You look at problems holistically and thrive on solutions that require thinking at multiple levels. You excel at developing the best engineers to deliver solutions in ambiguous domains. You are able to work with stakeholders to develop and deliver on your roadmap. You obsess over your customer, making sure your systems are available and reliable; you strive for the highest standards and remains in constant contact with your customers to assure their needs are met.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS • Relevant engineering experience
• Experience managing engineers
• Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of technical education and work experience
• Relevant engineering experience with a software development background including design patterns, data structures, test driven development
• Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience with the SCRUM methodology for agile software development preferred
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Experience with JavaScript, Java or C++
• Experience designing software architectures for scalability, reliability and performance
• Technical expertise in cloud-based distributed software design and development
• Technical expertise in building applications for Smart devices (or similar) such as AndroidTV, AppleTV, games consoles etc
