The Strategy & Stakeholder Relations function works closely with the CEO to (a) develop Investec Asset Management’s (IAM) strategy and advance strategically important projects, and (b) foster and manage relationships with IAM’s key internal and external stakeholders.

Role Description

The function comprises activities as follows:

1.Strategy
i) Internal business analysis
• Analyse IAM’s financial and business performance, including:
- AUM and net flows analysis
- Revenue and cost analysis
- Profitability and KPI analysis
- Budget and forecast analysis
- Markets / business development (e.g. market shares, growth areas, etc.)

ii) Competitor analysis
• Competitor analysis, including:
- Analysis of (including comparing and contrasting) financial performance metrics
- Tracking competitor developments, including their strategic direction, M&A, key hires, investment performance and competitor positioning
• Industry analysis
- Participation in selected benchmarking surveys – analysis of outputs and insights
- Involvement in / good knowledge of prevalent themes in the industry

iii) Opportunity analysis
• Identification / analysis of strategic opportunities, including:
- Organic growth opportunities / new markets analysis (e.g. market entry)
- Opportunities for business partnerships / strategic alliances (e.g. with IFC)
- Acquisition / divestment opportunities (on an ad hoc basis)

iv) Project management / execution for key growth initiatives, working with wider business (Investment teams / Client Groups / Operations teams)


2. Stakeholder Relations
i) Communications with shareholders and key stakeholders, including:
• Investec group
- Regular reporting of financial / business developments, as required
- Annual / interim reporting obligations

• IAM staff shareholders
- Updates to IAM staff shareholders, including related financial analysis

• IAM board
- Quarterly CEO updates to board and related presentations
- Other internal MI

• Staff
- Staff updates – working with input from wider business

ii) Support CEO with communications to government and regulatory entities, as well as with clients and industry bodies, where required

iii) Communication of IAM’s strategy and performance externally - e.g. to current and prospective Investec shareholders / analysts

iv) Analysis of changes to shareholding structure - e.g. changes to IAM minority shareholding

v) Relationship building and management
– with internal stakeholders (e.g. ExCo members, Investment teams / Client Group / Operations heads and team members)
- with external stakeholders (service providers, consultants / advisers, JV partners, Investec group Investor Relations, industry bodies, etc.)

Person Specification
Technical Knowledge and Experience

- Strong analytical skills (financial and non-financial)
- Commercial mindset / strategic thinker
- Up-to-date knowledge of the asset management industry
- Prior experience in strategy consulting, corporate finance, corporate development, helpful
