This Trade Surveillance Business Analyst role sits within the Business Analysis team that is part of Technology Change Management. The role is to conduct Business Analysis on regulatory focused technology projects in the area of transactional surveillance and monitoring.

A major broker based in London.


Trade Surveillance Business Analyst Job duties:

  • Conduct Business Analysis on regulatory focused technology projects in the area of transactional surveillance and monitoring
  • Liaise with Compliance, Business Managers, Product Managers, Project Managers, QA, and other areas of the business for requirements
  • Define, contribute and guide requirements gathering standards for the Surveillance Programme
  • Focusing on Market Surveillance capability across technology and defining functional and non-functional requirements
  • Understand business activity and associated Conduct and Market Abuse Assessments
  • Understand algo, hybrid and voice trading protocols and workflow
  • Define improvements to messaging standards to support surveillance capability
  • Agree documented user requirements with the business and IT
  • Coordinate, hold and lead requirements gathering and process definition workshops with the business Monitor, track issues, risks and dependencies on analysis and requirements work
  • Ensure Project Manager is kept apprised of the status of the assigned projects and activities
  • Manage and define project tasks and cross reporting to appropriate project team
  • Manage ad-hoc tasks as required
  • Work on multiple regulatory sub-projects and deliverables whilst managing multiple deadlines and differing priorities
  • Business analysis, problem solving, documentation and working to tight deadlines

Risk Responsibilities:

Ensure that you understand the risks and controls on your department; what could go wrong, what controls you have to prevent/detect or contain these.

  • Ensure that you are fully aware of and adhere to internal policies that relate to you, your role or any other activities for which you have any level of responsibility;
  • Report any breaches of policy to Compliance and/ or your supervisor as described in the policy;
  • Escalate risk events immediately and log them within 24 hours using the risk event capture form on the intranet;
  • Provide input if requested to the Risk and Control Self-Assessment process, scenario analysis, 'Deep Dive' reviews and any other risk management processes, as required.


Trade Surveillance Business Analyst Skills and Experiences required:


  • Understanding the full project life cycle from requirements capture through to implementation and delivery
  • Understanding of Wholesale Financial Services, ideally with a good understanding of the front-to-back trade lifecycle
  • Market Surveillance & Monitoring domain expertise - market abuse alert scenarios, case-management, pattern recognition & artificial intelligence
  • Front Office process knowledge - broking methods: algo, hydrid, voice and electronic, trade and order capture including trading protocols RFQ, CLOB, etc.
  • Solid product knowledge and modelling across wholesale markets FICC, ETDs and Equities using fpml, FIX and other similar industry standards
  • Middle Office process knowledge - control and processing of transactions, Back Office Process - Clearing, Settlement, Invoicing, payment and Confirmations
  • Knowledge of MiFID II, EMIR, SEF, or other regulatory regimes


  • Proven experience of leading regulatory focused business analysis deliverables
  • Proven experience in business analysis, problem solving, documentation and working to tight deadlines, ideally in an Agile environment
  • Conducted market abuse risk assessments (desk reviews)
  • Experience working with surveillance technology and conducted RFPs (Request for Pricing) and Vendor Scoring
  • Understands data requirements and related functional / technical aspects of a surveillance system
  • Inter Dealer Broker experience including ETD trading and related block trading
  • Worked in Compliance function or at least understands in context of surveillance the Reg requirements for an inter-dealer broker


  • Strong problem solving, documentation and ability to work on multiple projects whilst managing multiple deadlines and differing priorities
  • Ability to self-start, identify tasks required independently to fulfil project deliverables and work as a team member
  • Writing skills - ability to produce documents in a clear, accurate and compelling manner
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels (both written and oral) and strong presentation skills
  • Ability to provide detailed and meaningful interpretation of information in a concise manner
  • Ability to use own initiative, with strong personal organisation skills to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to develop new skills and understand new technology as required
  • Service oriented, adaptable, resilient, results oriented and personal accountability
  • Quality and control, with excellent attention to detail
  • Skilled in Microsoft applications software, inclusive of MS Visio and / or BPMN 2.0
  • Good understanding of Agile/Waterfall development methodologies
