About you and the role

You, and the team around you, will have a role crucial in the discovery and delivery of departmental initiatives. You are our eyes and ears in the field. You'll be responsible for communicating with our users and championing ideas to your team members and stakeholders in order to deliver on vital life-changing projects.

What are we looking for?

We have 15 vacancies across 3 different levels:

Senior User Researcher - Up to £71,916 + up to 10% bonus + benefits + flexible working/work-life balance

  • Proven experience of designing, facilitating and analysing a wide range of qualitative and quantitative user research using a variety of research methods to build a rich picture of customers and other user groups.
  • A strong understanding of the strengths and limitations of different research methods
  • A flair for devising innovative and creative approaches to generating new user evidence
  • Excellent moderating and interviewing skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Strong understanding of the societal and political context
  • Strong ability to question and challenge assumptions
  • The ability to evaluate the strength of evidence and identify where there are gaps
  • Strong intellect with the ability to see the bigger picture and translate business issues and needs into relevant, actionable research plans and objectives
  • Expert at weighing up evidence from various (and potentially conflicting) sources
  • Involve teams in analysis and synthesis to increase consensus and challenge assumptions
  • Have the ability to quickly develop recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative evidence and to evaluate and solve problems creatively to inform product decisions.
  • Known for a strong commitment to the principle of continuous improvement and development. As well as being able to adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions and cope effectively with complexity and change
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment

User Researcher - Up to £49,812 + up to 10% bonus + benefits + flexible working/work-life balance

  • Have a proven track record in user research and are experienced in using a variety of user researcher methodologies to build a rich picture of customers and other user groups
  • Extensive experience of conducting user research and the research process including: drafting discussions guides; recruiting respondents; organising test venues and mobilising resources; carrying out guerrilla/pop-up testing; interviewing; and moderating focus groups and usability (lab) test sessions
  • Able to create exciting research stimulus and paper prototypes
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong intellect with the ability to see the bigger picture and translate business issues and needs into relevant, actionable research plans and objectives
  • Able to coach junior colleagues and oversee their work
  • Experienced in weighing up evidence from various (and potentially conflicting) sources
  • Able to turn data into valuable insights that inform decisions
  • Ability to draw and present sound conclusions based on qualitative and quantitative evidence
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to present research findings in a creative and compelling way, tailored to the needs of the audience
  • Be able to confidently explain research findings to colleagues and senior stakeholders and be a persuasive advocate for user needs
  • Able to deliver at pace, with a commitment to agile and continuous iterative development.
  • Able to show tenacity to ensure the appropriate balance of stakeholder needs is achieved

Associate User Researcher - Up to £ 41,074 + up to 10% bonus + benefits + flexible working/work-life balance

  • Previous experience of elements of the research process, including writing discussion guides, recruiting respondents, organising test venues and mobilising resources
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to translate business issues and user needs into research plans and objectives
  • Able to weigh up evidence from various (and potentially conflicting) sources
  • Able to turn data into valuable insights that inform decisions
  • Excellent communications skills and an ability to present research findings in a creative and compelling way, tailored to the needs of the audience
  • Be able to confidently explain research findings to colleagues and senior stakeholders and be a persuasive advocate for user needs.
