This is a leadership role with a highly successful UK Private Equity firm with a strong regional focus. The main aspects fo the role can be defined as follows:
Leadership & Strategy
Ensure the company operates to the highest level of professionalism and integrity in both our external and internal activities.
Work alongside the Regional Head to provide leadership and management to the local office. Leads by example, with an inclusive and collegiate style.
Provide input into the strategy, objectives, and implementation of the company’s plans, in accordance with original and amended business plan.
Take an active role in managing the performance of the investment team, ensuring that individual performance management processes are effective, and that the team is operating coherently.
Ensure the firm’s investment and portfolio management processes are robust and are followed by the investment team.
Ensure that compliance have a suitable level of priority for the investment team, both in their day to day operations, but also in the team’s participation in the governance of portfolio companies.
Liaise with other team members and colleagues from other regions to facilitate sharing of good practice and ensure consistency of approach.
Actively promote and develop the profile and objectives of the firm in the region
Develop and maintain a strong and supportive regional network of business leaders and corporate finance people (advisers, bankers, lawyers etc.)
Develop and maintain a network of chairmen and non-executive directors in the region, and ensure they are part of the firm’s broader talent network.
With the Regional Head and other senior Investors to lead the development of the regional marketing plan, and ensure its delegation to the investment team and efficient implementation.
Run an active direct marketing programme to generate deal opportunities, and ensure that all investment staff are contributing.
Run an indirect marketing programme, working with advisers, lawyers, and banks to generate high quality investment opportunities.
Maintain a list of shadows, and ensure the team is meeting the shadows on a regular basis.
Lead the process of ‘selling’ an investment to the management teams of prospective investment companies, such that the benefits of the firm's track record are communicated.
Lead the deal team to make a thorough assessment of the investment opportunity, providing the key judgement on the overall investment, and managing the division and delegation of the due diligence to other members of the team.
Take overall responsibility for the accuracy and the suitability of the due diligence scopes.
Negotiate the key terms, and the legal documents, ‘selling’ the firm's terms and adhering to the standard documents where possible.
Take seats on the boards of investee companies, and become the main point of contact and relationship for the CEO.
Build relationships with the appointed chairman and other board members, and use relationships to help to influence the management team where required and appropriate.
Monitor investment progress against the firm's investment plan, highlighting any underperformance, and regularly updating and delivering portfolio actions as required.
Where appropriate, manages the smooth transition of portfolio companies to other members of the investment team, and/or the portfolio team.
Where on the board at exit, manages the exit process, helping the company to appoint advisers, and take an active part in ensuring the best outcome for the company and the firm.
