Department Description

The UK Business has made significant progress in the last two years in the Digital space, it is now seeking to make a step change to ensure that it fulfils its ambition to provide a market-leading personalised and differentiated digital experience for Fidelity customers and to become a digital-first business. As part of this, all the existing digital teams have been brought together in this new organisation. Fidelity is investing significantly in developing new client offerings, with the aim of delivering the best digital experience in financial services. The content strategist is integral to the success of the Digital strategy and of driving our online performance across the business.

Purpose of your role

This is a permanent role to support are UK digital websites. The purpose of this role is to deliver the best possible content experience to users of our web sites. This means planning, creating and editing content that is focused on the needs of the user while meeting the demands of numerous stakeholders across the business as well as remaining compliant with all regulatory needs.

To fulfil this purpose, we need a content strategist who is seasoned in the world of large organisations (web and mobile). Can you manage stakeholders with diplomacy while pushing your agenda to create the best, most intuitive and consistent content experience for users?

We are looking for a content strategist to join our team and help us create these great experiences. Reporting to the UK head of digital content, the role will be part of our UK Digital team within Fidelity.

You may have worked in an agency, come from a journalism background or worked in-house. Either way, you'll be a content strategist with several years' experience working on B2C and B2B websites, preferably in the financial sector. You will combine a copywriter's grasp of the nuances of the English language with the pragmatic approach necessary for working with web and application development teams.

An eye for detail is of course essential, but beyond this you must have a mind that can grasp the complexities that lie behind the detail, and the confidence to challenge diplomatically and effectively. This involves high degree of stakeholder management, the ability to work comfortably in a fast-moving environment with multiple variables and unknowns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support our websites ensuring a consistent, user-centric content experience across multiple work streams.
  • Plan, develop and coordinate a content structure based on user requirements
  • Define content requirements based on experience, competitive research and input from customers and subject matter experts.
  • Modify existing content and create compelling new content as required that speaks to defined user profiles by considering the goals, desires, and potential limitations of users.
  • Work with our UX and user testing team to ensure that content is always tuned to the needs of the user, the task the user is trying to complete, and the mind-set the user is in while completing that task.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure that content meets legal, compliance, SEO, accessibility, Fidelity branding, and style guide requirements; take the initiative to engage and coordinate content testing, peer review, and proofreading.
  • Manage stakeholders and voices across the organisation - from customer services to compliance - and balance sometimes competing demands to achieve the best outcomes for the customer.
  • Ensure that signed-off copy is delivered to deadline, working closely with the digital team and stakeholders
  • Champion the role of content within the team, group, and larger organization to provide business partners with user-centric, innovative online communications that meet business needs and user objectives.

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Exceptional writing, marketing, design, UX experience.
  • Proven experience writing and developing content strategy and governance for UK financial services preferred writing and editing in B2C and B2B environments, either as a journalist or a copywriter.
  • Understanding of the financial services industry.
  • Competency with information architecture and user experience best practices.
  • Ability to efficiently consolidate and/or realign direction from multiple sources.
  • Stakeholder management within large complex organisations.
  • Working with user experience and design teams.
  • Understanding of how to write for online.
  • Working with content management systems, with an understanding of the architectural considerations of content.
  • Proven relationship-building skills.
  • Confident presentation and communication skills to champion the benefits and logistics of project deliverables and timelines.
  • Ability to work independently, quickly, and thoroughly to prioritize and complete tasks under multiple deadlines.
  • Creativity, curiosity, optimism, and a sense of humour.
