Action for Children is an exceptional charity that supports and speaks out for the country's most vulnerable children and young people. We have an ambition of a UK where any child who needs help, gets help.

This is why we run fostering and adoption programmes, children's centres, short break and disability centres and a range of family support services. We provide employment projects for young people in Scotland and financial education to vulnerable young people in Wales. We deliver innovative work such as the ground breaking Mother and Baby unit at Styal prison. In all we have over 600 services reaching almost 400,000 children, young people and families.  

But the needs of children in the UK are growing whilst cuts to statutory funding mean vital support services are shrinking. This is happening at a time of political turmoil where the attention of politicians, the public and other decision makers is focused on economic and foreign policy issues. 

How you'll make a difference:

We are looking for an exceptional Risk and Assurance Manager to manage:

Our operational risk register in conjunction with risk owners to enable reporting of our risk profile to our Audit and Risk Committee and Board.

The outsourced internal audit programme to include planning, agreeing terms of referencing, engaging internal leads, supporting auditors during delivery of field work and finalising reports with leads with management comments and ensuring actions are delivered.

The insurance programme liaising with brokers and insurers to ensure insurance queries are dealt with, adequate cover continues to be in place for new activities and claims are adequately managed.

The development of the Business Continuity Framework for the Charity.

What you'll need:

The post holder must have experience in a similar role already, specifically reporting and presenting risk reports to Audit and Risk Committee and working closely with senior management and the Executive Team. The post holder reports to the General Counsel/Head of Legal Services and is part of the Corporate Shared Services Leadership Team and is therefore a critical role in the organisation. We are looking for a candidate that can demonstrate the values that the Charity holds and understands the challenges that the sector faces currently.
