Location: Flexible covering Beverley, Goole, Northallerton & Leeds.

This is a new role, the first in the country of its kind; a Head of Investments across two local government pension funds. Building on our already successful partnership and strong working relationship, realising the synergies and the opportunities of our joint working.

The East Riding and North Yorkshire Pension Funds are two of the most highly performing local authority pension funds in the country. Investment returns have been exceptional and the funding level of both funds is therefore well above 100% in both cases. Total investments are valued at £9.1bn and the fund strategies are intended to maintain this healthy position. Together, the two funds serve circa 500 employers and 209,000 members across the whole of the Humber region, York and North Yorkshire. Both Funds are members of the Border to Coast Pensions Partnership as part of investment pooling arrangements. 

This is not a typical pensions investment role; you will identify when it is best to collaborate between Funds and with Border to Coast, and when there is a need to reflect differences recognising the distinct (but like-minded) stakeholders. We are looking for someone who can be seen as a leading voice amongst Border to Coast partners and can draw upon knowledge and skill to lead discussions on investment strategy as well as managing the investment portfolio. 

The role will involve the overall management of the Pension Fund including direct investment management across a range of asset classes, oversight of the existing external investment managers including Border to Coast, strategic and tactical asset allocation, management of investments staff across both Funds, managing the continuing transition of assets to Border to Coast, and reporting to senior management, the Pensions Committees and the Local Pension Boards.
