The CLO/CDO Portfolio Associate will have responsibilities for assisting Portfolio Analysts with compliance testing, hypothetical analysis, cash flow projection, timely and accurate cash and holdings transaction comparisons, and the resolution of exceptions with the trustees. The associate will assist with monitoring and tie-out of income, transactions, and holdings on a daily basis utilizing an automated reconciliation system – StaARS, and TCW’s proprietary SMS system (Securities Management System), research and resolve discrepancies with custodians and liaise with TCW’s operational groups that support global data maintenance. This position provides support to the fixed income investment management teams.

Position Summary:

The CLO/CDO Portfolio Associate will have responsibilities for assisting Portfolio Analysts with compliance testing, hypothetical analysis, cash flow projection, timely and accurate cash and holdings transaction comparisons, and the resolution of exceptions with the trustees. The associate will assist with monitoring and tie-out of income, transactions, and holdings on a daily basis utilizing an automated reconciliation system – StaARS, and TCW’s proprietary SMS system (Securities Management System), research and resolve discrepancies with custodians and liaise with TCW’s operational groups that support global data maintenance.  This position provides support to the fixed income investment management teams.  The position requires someone who can communicate effectively with senior managers, and can interact daily with TCW’s internal and external business partners.

Essential Function/Duties:

  • Complete daily cash reconciliation for CLO and CDO portfolios utilizing the automated STaARS reconciliation process.
  • Investigate any discrepancies on portfolio income between bank and SMS system.
  • Research and carry out resolution of exceptions utilizing various sources including: Bloomberg, Wall Street Office, SMS, and trustee remittance reports.
  • Monitor payments for Defaulted Securities and ensure accurate allocation per Compliance Requirement.
  • Cultivate positive relationships and work proactively with custodial bank for timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Communicate internally with members of Data Management, Bank Loan Support, Settlements, and Middle Office groups to ensure trades and cash flows are accurately recorded within SMS.
  • Perform scheduled holdings reconciliation – daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Monitor trades and maintain accurate portfolio cash and securities balances in reporting systems used by analysts.
  • Update 3 way reconciliation between SMS, WSO and Trustees for CLO accounts
  • Assist Portfolio Analysts in the Calculation of coverage and collateral quality tests, portfolio concentration limitations and other tests as specified by the indentures.
  • Assist Portfolio Analysts with requests from Portfolio Managers for hypothetical analysis, various projects and cash flow projection.
  • Support warehouse servicing for new CLOs.
  • Support the WSO/Markit relationship for CLO servicing (including Compliance, Settlements, Reconciliation and Reporting

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
  • One to two years’ experience performing similar duties with a buy-side asset manager or equivalent sell side experience.
  • Knowledge of global fixed income, syndicated loans, and securitized products: CLOs/CDOs, MBS/ABS securities, including derivatives are required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (must establish good rapport with internal and external business partners).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize, multi-task, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Bloomberg experience with securities payment and related research is required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of bank loan and global fixed income securities payments and settlement processes.
  • Familiarity with STaARS or other auto-reconciliation software is a plus.
