Reporting jointly to the Quantitative Portfolio Managers and the Director of Technology, the DBA/Developer, Data Architect will design, implement, and maintain complex data analytics systems that support and further develop the data infrastructure of the organization’s Quantitative group. Responsibilities include loading large data sources and developing code libraries to retrieve data in effort to innovate the next level of analytics systems that effectively integrate with and enhance current research applications.

Position Overview: Reporting jointly to the Quantitative Portfolio Managers and the Director of Technology, the DBA/Developer, Data Architect will design, implement, and maintain complex data analytics systems that support and further develop the data infrastructure of the organization’s Quantitative group.   Responsibilities include loading large data sources and developing code libraries to retrieve data in effort to innovate the next level of analytics systems that effectively integrate with and enhance current research applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Load and maintain large SQL data sources (as much as 1+ TB) from a variety of financial data vendors
  • Analyze and improve performance of data analytics systems
  • Develop reliable data loaders to facilitate automation of incremental updates
  • Work with Quantitative team to analyze and improve the architecture of Causeway’s proprietary and derived data sets
  •  Develop code libraries to facilitate the retrieval and analysis of both external/vendor data and internal proprietary data
  • Develop data quality rules and define standards for data management 
  • Institute governance for data architecture in the Software
  • Development Lifecycle and train staff on principles of data architecture

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years’ relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physical Sciences with a strong GPA
  • Expertise in data modeling, SQL, performance measurement and tuning
  • Proficient with a variety of languages, including Python and one or more of Perl, C/C++, R, S-Plus
  • Database experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Mongo DB
  • Proficient with Tableau, Apache Kafka, or similar software
  • Capital Markets and Asset Management experience is desirable
  •  Familiarity with Bloomberg, Factset and other market data APIs preferred
  • Familiarity with massively parallel SQL engines/databases and column-oriented databases, such as Redshift, Impala, Drill, Presto, or Vertica a plus
  • Familiarity with SPARK, MESOS, AKKA, CASSANDRA, KAFKA (SMACK) a plus
  •  Ability to provide thought leadership and contribute to the firm's overall technology strategy
