Data Services is responsible for the integrity of all asset data, utilized by internal and external clients for both trading and managing our investments and portfolio risk. FPA’s Data Services Team is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of asset security data, which includes ensuring the accuracy of all key security attributes for all known asset types, and ensuring the accuracy of market data supplied from various suppliers, including asset data and pricing data. The Data Services Analyst will be responsible for supporting day-to-day data maintenance, data transaction processing, and data control and reporting functions of Data Services.

Based in West Los Angeles, the primary responsibilities of the Data Services Analyst include: 

  • Perform timely review and setup of securities to facilitate Portfolio Managements’ trades
  • Perform timely and accurate responses to daily data inquiries
  • Administer all quality control processes and procedures that ensure the integrity, accuracy, and security of key data and data flows both internally between FPA systems and externally
  • Deliver data support for front office (portfolio management and trading) and back office operations (performance, settlements, and client services)
  • Participate in special projects with technology group and various other teams as it relates to data
  • Coordination of security master data within firm across various systems including Charles River
  • Assist with identification and defining of best practice standards for security master related issues
  • Create and maintain data reconciliation reports to monitor data integrity in key systems including but not limited to Charles River, FactSet, and Bloomberg Port
  • Collaborate with departments across the firm as it pertains to investment guidelines, security master data and data feeds between systems
  • Perform end of day control checks to ensure not only that the security master data in Charles River is good, but also to ensure cash and positions are accurate in Charles River before the following day’s market open
  • Administer cash and position updates pushed from the firm’s outsource provider, SEI, to ensure updates pushed to Charles River are accurate and timely
  • Collaborate with IT to define requirements for automated controls and alerts around all system feeds
  • Provide ongoing review and improvement of data feeds and controls

Requirements:

  • Must possess and demonstrate a working knowledge of equity and fixed income investments and finance with the skills and ability to work in an entrepreneurial and team oriented environment
  • Must have enthusiasm for, and comfort with, working at a fast pace while maintaining quality and the integrity of investment data
  • Comfortable working with technical tools such as Excel functions.  SQL skills a plus
  • Proven ability to quickly learn the intricacies of complex financial instruments and adapt their technical ability quickly
  • Excellent communication skills to enable clear articulation while working with internal and external clients
  • Experience working with the following vendors/systems a plus:  Bloomberg; Charles River Investment Management System (CRIMS); FactSet; CapIQ; PTCC; ISS; Portfolio Accounting systems, preferably Advent systems; Data providers including Bloomberg, MSCI, and Moody’s
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Computer Science
  • 5-7 years related industry experience
