ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

This dual role seeks a high-performing candidate who will be responsible for managing our domestic and international tax compliance and regulatory reporting for our international entities.  Additionally, the candidate will collaborate and work closely with members of the Controller’s Group on daily operations and adhoc projects.

 

US and International Tax

  • Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of the company’s tax compliance filings such as domestic and foreign income taxes, issuance of K-1’s to unit holders, indirect taxes and other business-related filings.
  • Oversee and coordinate with external accounting firms in preparing quarterly and annual income tax provisions, including developing analysis to support tax provision amounts.
  • Coordinate with third party consultants to ensure accuracy of monthly VAT filings.
  • Exceptional understanding of partnership taxation and tax treatment of certain items of partners’ income, capital allocation, and allowances at the federal and state levels.
  • Conduct complex tax research and prepare a memorandum outlining findings and conclusions.
  • Advise management on future changes to tax regulations and possible impact to the organization.
  • Provide support for various audits and special tax-related projects.

 

Regulatory Reporting

  • Responsible for preparing and filing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to regulatory agencies that govern Matthews Asia’s existing and new international entities including the FCA in the UK, SFC in Hong Kong, the PRC in Shanghai and the MAS in Singapore.
  • Coordinates and consults with our compliance consultants to ensure reporting is filed accurately and timely.
  • Stay current on new or changing regulatory reports and guidance/instructions. Assess impact to the company and assist business units in estimating the regulatory impact on proposed complex transactions.
  • Implement new and changing reporting requirements, including the establishment of new processes or enhancements to existing processes.
  • Maintain department policy and procedure documents, maintaining a strong control environment.

 

Qualifications required for this position are as follows:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Master’s degree in Taxation or CPA certification preferred.
  • 6+ years prior experience in public accounting tax experience; Big 4 accounting firm experience a plus.
  • Experience handling tax audits desirable.
  • Exceptional understanding of partnership taxation and tax treatment of certain items of partners’ income, capital allocation, and allowances at the federal and state levels.
  • Understanding of regulatory reporting requirements in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, China and Singapore is desired.
  • Detail oriented and ability to multi-task, work independently, and prioritize in a dynamic environment while ensuring internal and external deadlines are met.
  • Strong computer skills: proficiency in Tax software, Excel, Word.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Project management experience a plus.
