The Manager- Risk Strategy and Business Intelligence is responsible for developing automated, scalable reporting solutions for BMO Strategic Risk in Collections. This position will lead and support through delivery of reporting, insights and measurement in line with Enterprise strategy and Digital Acceleration.

The incumbent will act as a reporting and analytics subject matter expert by creating product level forecasts, leveraging through historical data, product knowledge, market and competitive trends. The successful candidate will be combining both business and technology acumen to generate and maintain reporting in various forms (ad-hoc analyses, data visualization, self-serve BI).

Specific Accountabilities

Lead the development and implementation of advanced analytics within Collections Strategy including forecast, predictive modelling, stress testing, etc. Data curation extracting data from multiple sources, manipulating and validation using database tools (SAS, SQL, R, Python)

Represent the forecasting models business unit when reporting out to leaders in the organization

Develop in-depth understanding of BMO data and systems (IDP, CAD, CDW, Adobe)

Develop and maintain a strong engagement with key stakeholders to understand business needs and priorities

Identify opportunities for process / model optimization and refine to improve effectiveness / accuracy and enhance ROI to make recommendations and present information in an easy and understandable manner

Comfortable with ambiguity self-learner able to independently navigate complex data

Work proactively and collaboratively with key clients and stakeholders to continuously enhance reporting

Strong qualitative and analytical skills with the ability to generalise relevant information from various sources and analyze data for recommendations (i.e using PowerPoint)

Coach & provide guidance to Data Scientists & Data Analysts in the team by leveraging theoretical and practical knowledge of advanced analytic methods and algorithms


The ideal candidate will have the following:

Degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, machine learning, data science or related field with 2-3 years experiences or an undergrad with 8+ years experience (Graduate degree an asset)

Strong Business Acumen and storytelling skills, being able to comprehend instructions, create documentation on models and reports and explain complex systems and data briefly

Strong technical, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work with various levels of management up to and including Senior Management as well as work within multi-functional teams

Curious, outcome focused and critical thinking with the ability to analyze and visualize ensuring continuous improvement across the business

5+ years experience in business intelligence, ETL, analytics, Digital

Experience with BMO data and familiarity with BMO products and operations

Some experience within data preparation, data analysis, and statistical tool sets including but not limited to SQL, SAS, R, Python, MATLAB

Strong experience implementing data visualization (Power BI, Spotfire, Tableau)

Strong experience with building executive level PowerPoint presentations

Strong experience in Forecasting or Predictive Data Modeling and working with risk scenarios

Experience using analytics to turn data into recommendations and actionable insights

Experience working with big data, cloud-based environments and Agile methodologies

Ability to perform on multiple projects simultaneously and deliver under tight timelines

Experience working in a Risk management role
