The Group: The Index business is responsible for the creation and distribution of Morningstars Index Intellectual Property. The group develops new, innovative indexes for use by asset managers and asset owners in serving their clients investment needs. The individuals in the Index group thrive to ensure that we meet Morningstars high standards in developing indexes to satisfy a wide range of global clientele.

The Role: Morningstar is committed to creating great products that help investors reach their financial goals. One way we do so, is through our Index offering where we transform our research into investable solutions. We are looking for an experienced index marketing leader to join our team. Youll be responsible for successfully bringing new offers to market, ensuring strong demand in a b-b-c environment and building Morningstars reputation for Indexes. The group develops new, innovative indexes for use by the asset manager, asset owner and wealth management client segments in serving their investment needs. You will work globally and understand the nuances in marketing strategy per geography. This role dually reports to the President, Head of Indexes and the Head of Product Marketing.

Responsibilities:

  • Set measurable objectives for marketing programs. Allocate resources and budget appropriately across awareness, demand and partner marketing programs.
  • Player-coach in developing marketing plans for multiple geographical regions.
  • Partner with research and product management in negotiating terms and programs with new distribution partners.
  • Manage and coach a growing, high-potential marketing team. Together:
  • -- Collaborate with marketing, research and product, and sales teams and distribution partners to design, execute, and optimize multi-channel campaigns.
  • -- Manage the positioning of the investment line-up.
  • -- Develop a range of product content from educational pieces to one-page sales ideas to longer form papers that support buyers journeys across multiple channels.
  • -- Create sales training materials tailored to roles of contributing sales teams.
  • -- Craft value propositions and messaging maps tailored per audience-advisor and end investor. Ensures consistent messaging across assets.
  • -- Optimize digital properties to meet marketing objectives.
  • Become a subject matter expert in the indexes offering and enjoys representing it both internally and externally.
  • Be a trusted voice that shares and demonstrates the impact of marketing to business and sales partners thus securing additional funding as appropriate.
  • Serve as a member of the Index executive team.
  • Align with other business units and corporate marketing to increase awareness of Morningstar investment.

Requirements:

  • 10 years successful marketing career with a focus on product marketing, demand generation and brand in an index or asset manager firm. Additional experience in sales and product management is valued.
  • Bachelors degree in marketing, management or business. A Masters degree is a plus.
  • Investing industry experience. Global experience, a plus.
  • Data-driven; understands how to translate marketing metrics into opportunities for action.
  • Confident self-starter with ability to work in matrix organization.
  • Certifications and/or experience working or managing a team with: Agile practices, Eloqua, Adobe Experience Manager, Tableau, Google Analytics, On24 or equivalent technologies.
