Job Summary & Responsibilities:

William Blair is seeking an experienced Investment Banking Analyst to join the Leveraged Finance Group, a team focused on arranging leveraged loans and structured equity to fund LBO, acquisition, recapitalization, and refinancing transactions.  Our focus on the middle market and the extensive range of leveraged financings we arrange afford Analysts the unique opportunity to develop a comprehensive understanding of, and expertise in, all manner of leveraged financing structures.  The Leveraged Finance Group works closely with each of William Blairs industry sector teams as well as our Financial Sponsor Group in serving the financing needs of the firms investment banking clients. The Analyst will be based in the firm's Chicago headquarters.


  • Financial Analysis  Analyze financial statements and related data to assess historical financial performance, current conditions, and future outlook for client companies and prospects
  • Financial Modeling Build detailed, fully-integrated three-statement financial models to analyze the impact of alternative transaction and capital structures on cash flows, covenant cushions, and investor rates of return
  • Due Diligence Assess information required to perform all pertinent analyses; compile information request lists and track information gathered; assist lenders and investors in their due diligence processes
  • Conduct Research Research current and prospective client companies, comparable companies and transactions, and industries; monitor and research capital markets; update client and debt/equity databases
  • Drafting Transaction-Related Documents Draft offering memorandums, management presentations, and other communications with clients and investors
  • Any other support services required to assist in pitching or closing engagements

  • At least one year of experience in leveraged lending, investment banking, commercial banking or public accounting required
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical abilities
  • Excellent mathematical, writing, verbal, and computer skills
  • Ability to adapt to new tasks with little notice
  • Solid working knowledge of financial accounting
  • Proficiency in financial modeling
  • Bachelors degree required with concentration in Finance or Accounting preferred
  • Series 79, and Series 63 licenses required within 150 days of hire
