POSITION

The private funds counsel will be part of an in-house legal team responsible for supporting Wellington Management's fund investor and client facing activities, with a focus on sponsored private funds, including hedge funds, offshore funds, and bank maintained collective trusts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide legal support and advice for Wellington Management's Fund business, including strategic legal advice and counsel to senior business leaders. Specific activities will include launching new private funds (in various forms domiciled in various jurisdictions), maintenance of existing funds (including disclosure documentation, service provider documentation for distributors, prime brokers and others, and onboarding issues), analysis of regulatory developments, managing external counsel, and counseling business colleagues.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• 10-15+ years of experience practicing law
• Good business judgment and strong counseling skills
• Broad based fund-related experience dealing with various structures, jurisdictions, and legal and regulatory constructs, including 3c7 funds, bank-maintained CITs and CTFs subject to OCC oversight
• Familiarity with the Advisers Act, ERISA, Reg D and NFA/CFTC regulations
• Experience at a national law firm or relevant in-house position
• Excellent legal and analytical skills
• Creativity and ability to work under pressure
• Ability to represent the firm with external clients, fund investors globally and independent boards
• Proven written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Sense of humor
