Produce extensive in-house fundamental research utilizing a value based approach and careful assessment of risk to identify opportunities for superior risk-adjusted returns.

The Credit Analyst is responsible for covering one or more sectors in the municipal bond market. Conduct analysis and make fundamental recommendations on sectors, covered issuers, new issues and secondary markets. Work closely with other analysts, sector teams and portfolio managers to in assisting the development of sector and asset class strategies. Scope of work will require on-site visits for municipal investments as part of credit assessment, negotiating appropriate structure, covenants and legal provisions on new issues.

  • Execute on the three pillars of Credit Research: Buy discipline, Surveillance, Sell discipline. Including:
    • Provide timely new issue recommendations
    • Provide timely issuer updates
    • Identify and forecast key drivers
  • Manage Analyst Coverage list and maintain strong working knowledge of multiple sectors
  • Collect, maintain and analyze statistical and quantitative data to support fundamental research and relative value relationships
  • Write credit summaries based on research with buy/sell/hold recommendations, and present to senior research staff for decision making.
  • Analyze results, perform sensitivity analysis, consider valuation methodologies and recovery analysis
  • Review bond documentation and provide covenant analysis
  • Provide relative value recommendations and Issuer positioning based on fundamental research
  • With direction, create historical and projected financial models, analyzing key financial metrics
  • Interact with rating agencies, Wall Street analysts, and other independent sources to obtain external views on individual credits or industries
  • 3-5+ years of credit research, preferably in Municipals and/or High Yield
  • Bachelors degree plus a CFA or CFA candidate and, or advanced degree (MBA, JD, MPP, or MPA)
  • Must be a self-starter, and willing to conduct travel (~40%) as part of the investment research process
  • Strong analysis skills (analytical, quantitative, communication, effective writing, presentation skills). Advanced excel modeling skills is required
  • Strong knowledge of Accounting Principles, Financial Statement Analysis and Financial Modeling
  • Ability to conduct face-to-face meeting with management teams
  • Strong presentation skills to participate in client, consultant and prospective client meetings
  • Must be detail oriented with ability to multi-task
  • Strong organization skills and ability to work independently within a team environment
  • Working knowledge of Capital Markets, Bond Math and Economic Business Cycles
