Mellons equity team manages approximately $40bn in AUM as of December 31, 2019, with a client base that includes retail mutual funds, pension schemes, foundations, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, as well as RIAs and investment advisors. The small cap equity investment strategist is responsible for communicating the differentiating attributes of the teams investment process both internally within Mellon and BNY Mellon Investment Management, and externally to the marketplace through effective marketing and communications strategies. They must be viewed as a credible subject matter expert, with extensive knowledge of portfolio-level holdings, thoughts on sector/industry positioning, and broad market insight. The position has responsibility for executing the strategys positioning in the marketplace, partnering with Distribution to develop and implement product marketing plans, in addition to contributing to thought pieces, and commentaries for various internal and external distribution channels. Key internal relationships include Portfolio Management, Research, Investment Strategy, Marketing, Distribution, and Investment Product Strategy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Expand the small cap equity business through developing relationships with clients and consultants, thought leadership, ongoing client education, as well as conference speaking engagements.
Build and maintain a strong partnership with the portfolio management and analyst teams in order to be a credible and highly effective alternate for the portfolio managers, serving as a subject matter expert for the broader distribution team
Partner with Distribution and the Consultant Relations team to support institutional, sub advisory, and intermediary businesses, both within Mellon and across BNY Mellon Investment Management
May serve as the primary contact for assigned clients, prospects and consultants.
Provide ongoing updates about the investment philosophy, process, and performance.
Develop and enhance strategy messaging, including marketing collateral, in addition to working with the product investment strategy team to ensure appropriate vehicle availability
Contribute to thought leadership, including authoring white papers and articles for industry journals. Provides guidance in writing investment commentary, and updating of current RFP responses, questionnaires, and marketing materials.
Serve as a source of industry knowledge, positioning and expertise for the small cap equity strategies. Influence others by demonstrating strong investment ability and communicating and engaging with colleagues.
Manage and guide the development of the small cap equity business and strong analytical skills
Proactive approach and capacity for meaningful travel
3-5 years of portfolio management, investment strategist, and/or product specialist experience, or other relevant field preferred
BA/BS in Finance or Business. MBA and/or CFA or progress toward designation desirable
Understanding of fundamentally driven investment processes, and keen intellectual curiosity about financial markets and investing preferred
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Exposure to both institutional mandates and mutual funds an advantage
Collaborative and cooperative approach preferred
