    The Advanced Analytics Group is a rapidly growing global team of expert consultants focused on Data Science, Engineering, Marketing Science, Operations Research/Supply Chain and Primary Research.   

    Position Summary

    • As a Sr. Manager, Data Science for Industrial Analytics you will have the chance to work on large scale business problems for some of the top global manufacturers and industrial services companies
    • You will use your understanding of our clients’ business context to solve for the most pressing client problems using advanced analytics tools and techniques
    • Driving results together, you will collaborate with Bain consultants, designers, client experts, analytics experts, and our ecosystem of external partners
    • As a data science manager, you will provide vision and direction for the data science solution and have the chance to lead up a teams of data scientists, including providing technical/coding guidance as needed
    • Within this, you will be responsible for managing the development, testing and deployment of these models – potentially taking these all the way to production
    • You will have the opportunity to be a thought leader and guide the codification of key learnings across clients, such as repeatable end-to-end model development approaches and important topics like scaling/hardening effectively for deployment and operations
    • Mentor and support our Data Scientists in extending and innovating our industrial analytics and data science capabilities
    • Extensive travel required

    Collaborate with Bain generalist consultants, designers, and external partners to solve our clients most pressing problems

    Build and manage a team of data scientists with expertise in industrial analytics

    Guide the development of IP and a repeatable model across clients

    • Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Math, Systems Engineering, Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering)
    • 7+ years of experience applying advanced AI techniques (machine learning, optimization, time-series analysis, advanced visualization, heavy data integration/engineering) to business problems, with relevant experience in manufacturing (discrete and process), supply chain and/or energy
    • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, design and iteratively build data-driven analytical models, and have taken a proven leadership role in shaping these solutions for industrial use cases
    • Managed small to medium sized teams of data scientists for at least 2 years
    • Strong business and technical communication skills, including ability to translate analytical concepts (e.g., machine learning, statistical inference) into language that non-experts can understand.
    • Ability to translate and frame business and user needs into technical requirements
    • Strong capabilities in Python and R, and preferably 1-2 other languages such as Scala, Java, C++, SAS
    • Strong capabilities in SQL and proven experience working with databases and data warehouses or data lakes
    • Extensive experience in developing algorithms and models including time-series models, regression, tree-based models, clustering, neural networks, Bayesian models and ensemble techniques
    • Experience applying these models to industrial applications such as anomaly detection and use cases such as predictive maintenance, yield optimization, and other high value areas
    • Ability to effectively collaborate across the advanced analytics lifecycle (e.g. with machine learning engineers, UI designers and software engineers) to get to full end-to-end solution
    • Depth in areas related to industrial analytics and operations research is a must
    • Experience with data types such as wave form/time-series, text and images, experience tackling ‘big’ data (large, heterogeneous, real-time)
    • Experience with specific industrial data challenges such as sensor fusion techniques, censored data, and modelling approaches for high dimensionality/low sample size
    • Experience in machine learning frameworks and tools (e.g. scikit-learn, mlr, caret, H2O, TensorFlow, MXNet, PyTorch, Caffe/Caffe2, CNTK, MLlib) is desired
    • Experience with dashboards, business intelligence tools, and visualization solutions (e.g., Tableau, Qlik, Shiny, Plotly Dash) is desired
    • Experience with big data computation technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Hive, NoSQL) a plus
    • Experience with cloud computing platforms a plus.
    • Demonstrable mastery of code and programming concepts (e.g. contribution to open source projects, personal data science projects available publicly on a forum like GitHub or Kaggle or data science related journals and conferences) a plus
    • Familiarity with Bayesian/probabilistic programming, NLP or Image Processing a plus
