Basic Purpose:

Eaton Vance’s Investment Grade Fixed Income (IGFI) department manages over $15 billion across core, core plus, credit, and absolute return strategies for Eaton Vance Management (EVM) and Calvert Research and Management (CRM) clients.  The group employs a top down and bottom-up investment process that focuses on analyzing a range of securities across multiple sectors including corporate credit, securitized assets, sovereign, preferred securities, currency, and derivatives. 

The Senior Portfolio Analyst works directly with senior portfolio managers and traders to ensure investment views are timely and accurately implemented across strategies and portfolios, including domestic and international institutional separate accounts and pooled vehicles.  This position typically focuses on those strategies that are higher focus.  By conducting collaborative and independent portfolio analysis, the Senior Portfolio Analyst provides ideas that improve portfolio construction and investment performance.  This role is also responsible for helping to ensure the integrity of investment messages related to portfolio strategy and positioning across internal audiences.  The Senior Portfolio Analyst takes a leadership role in driving continual process improvement to increase scale and reduce risk in the portfolio implementation process.   

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with portfolio managers, fundamental credit and ESG research analysts to monitor holdings and identify opportunities.
  • Provide analysis of portfolio risk exposures by sector, quality, maturity, country and currency.  Identify and present risk and return tradeoffs of current and proposed portfolio positioning.
  • Analyze liquidity requirements and overall portfolio positioning for trade execution and work with portfolio managers to identify funding sources by cash or specific securities
  • Rebalance portfolios in response to investment strategies, cash flows, benchmark changes, market price movements and changes in client guidelines.
  • Manage pre-trade workflow, including trade sizing, compliance, allocations, and hedge calculations.
  • Communicate strategy and monitor trade execution with multiple trading desks across the firm. 
  • Participate in daily trading/investment team meetings as appropriate to source potential opportunities.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of ESG exposures.
  • Create and maintain model portfolios for potential products and clients.
  • Provide portfolio strategy and positioning updates. Lead portfolio update meetings as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other functions and teams to improve workflow efficiency.   Represent the portfolio management team on investment technology and operations project teams.
  • Collaborate with risk and product management teams on projects as needed.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major in finance, economics, or quantitative subject preferred.  Master’s Degree a plus.
  • CFA charter or work towards is a strong plus.  Completion of CFA charter expected upon hire.
  • 7+ years of industry experience, with preferably 3+ years of related experience in fixed income.
  • Significant knowledge of fixed income securities across multiple sectors including investment grade, high yield, EM, securitized, and derivatives.
  • Significant knowledge of fixed income risk and attribution measures and reports.
  • Significant knowledge of legal and compliance issues surrounding mutual funds and separate accounts.
  • Ability to work with large datasets and perform quantitative analysis.
  • Interest in ESG-focused investing required.
  • Comfort working in collaboration with others and independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
  • Portfolio analytic systems experience such as BlackRock Aladdin.
