POSITION

The Mosaic Investment Science IT team is responsible for providing the technology platform for the Investment Science division of WMC. The Investment Science team is charged with providing tailored multi-asset class investment products to our various clients by leveraging a mix of fundamental, quantitative, and risk management techniques.

The Mosaic Investment Science IT team has an opening for a Senior Software Engineer to create, maintain, and provide technical oversight of various applications and processes in support of the investment, research, and reporting needs of the business, such as:

  • State-of-the art data visualization tools
  • Complex geographical visualization applications
  • New asset allocation, investment strategies, and factor research platform
  • Integration of internal and third party data and analytics


The individual will work closely with various teams in both IT and the investment team to ensure successful delivery of high quality business-critical solutions.

Climate Research Initiative

Climate change is an area of increasing focus for Wellington Management, formalized by our multi-year collaborative initiative with Woods Hole Research Center in September 2018. This effort spans investors across asset classes including equity, corporate fixed income, commodities, real estate, and municipal and sovereign bond markets. Interactions with clients have confirmed that the firm's focus on physical climate risk (in addition to transition risks of policy and technology) is a true differentiator.

Climate change is the defining issue of our time with future impacts that span the globe. Yet capital markets have largely ignored this issue, and we believe that this is a great oversight. At Wellington, we hope to stand at the forefront of understand how climate change will impact financial markets for the benefit of our clients in preparation for a world that will become increasingly aware of climate change's effects on economic and social systems. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection between cutting-edge climate research and finance.

This role will be focused on supporting this initiative and will involve working closely with the Director, Climate Research, Woods Hole Research Center, the ESG Research team, the Investment Data Science Team and other equity, fixed income, and multi-asset investors.

Responsibilities
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Senior Software Engineer/Programmer to join a strong, collaborative technology team with a high degree of interaction with investment professional end users. Responsibilities include:
  • Working closely with investors and analysts to gather requirements and design creative, scalable successful deliverables.
  • Work in close collaboration with Wellington's Sustainability Research team and research scientists from the Woods Hole Research Center
  • Overseeing and directly contributing to agile builds and deployments to production, and providing basic operational support.
  • Being an adaptable, self-motivated learner with a willingness to take ownership of various projects to ensure they are successful in a fast moving environment.
  • Educate team and develop standards for geospatial analysis and mapping best practices
  • Design and develop applications that allow investors and analysts to leverage geospatial data.


Qualifications
  • 5+ years developing UIs with modern front-end frameworks like ReactJS, Angular, Bootstrap
  • Knowledge of HTML and JavaScript required
  • Experience with effective visualization of complex geospatial data: commonly used web-mapping APIs and protocols, and integration with enterprise-level databases.
  • Understanding of GIS practices, geospatial analysis and data managementBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Geography/GIS, Math, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with SQL and RDBMS technologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of agile software development including experience on GIT and Jenkins CI
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Willingness to work both collaboratively and independently based on the task, in a fast-paced business critical environment


Preferred Qualifications
  • Willingness to work both collaboratively and independently based on the task, in a fast-paced business critical environment
  • Experience in Python programming
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud technologies
  • Experience in financial services
  • Experience with mapping libraries and frameworks: Leaflet, OSM, OpenLayers, Mapbox, Google Maps API
  • Experience with data science visualization frameworks and applications (Python and JS): Bokeh, Plotly, D3, Jupyter Notebooks
  • Experience with UI/UX design
