The Research Data Analytics (RDA) team is responsible for turning Data Science into a recognized source of strength and competitive differentiator for the firm. The RDA team is focused on building both Content and Capabilities to empower all Wellington investors to extract the maximum value from data, to inform their investment decisions. The team is composed of an interdisciplinary mix of quantitative investors, data scientists, and systems engineers.  We are looking for a Semantic Layer Engineer to design and build APIs for powering investor workflows.

Keys to this position:

  • 10 + years of development experience with 5+ years of Python experience.  A major focus for this role will be to implement webservices and build API's
  • Must have experience with REST API's.
  • Big Data experience is a must - experience working with large data sets is a requirement for this role
  • Must have some AWS experience
  • Must have Familiarity with different programming language patterns (OOP, functional, fluent - needs to have at least 2 of the 3 of these)
  • Must have some familiarity with programmatic api's for data science (Numpy, Pandas, TensorFlow, NLTK).  We are not looking for an expert but they need to be familiar with these or similar API's. - Do they understand how they designed and built their API's?
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills and a proven ability to put complex systems into production.
  • Design semantic layer API to power data science workflows through a REST API and programming language SKDs.
  • Design and build the infrastructure for data extraction, preparation, and loading from a variety of sources using technologies on AWS
  • Design, build, test and maintain scalable and stable web services to power data analysis applications used by investors
  • Build and optimize data pipelines, architectures and data sets used by investment teams
  • Integrate multiple data sources and databases into one system.
  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use
  • Implement security and data protection
  • Communicate regularly with technical and non-technical team members about technologies and best practices.

  • 5+ years of experience with software engineering in the areas of machine learning, natural language processing, and big data
  • Experience with complete SDLC; must be comfortable with test driven development, continuous integration, and agile development methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency with at least one scientific programming language like Python, R, Scala, Matlab, or Java.
  • Understanding of technical challenges involved in the processing and computation of large data sets
  • Experience working with user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments
  • Familiarity with programmatic api's for data science (Numpy, Pandas, TensorFlow, NLTK)
  • Familiarity with different programming language patterns (OOP, functional, fluent)
  • Understanding of data serialization formats and their strengths (JSON, XML, Avro, SOAP, Feather)
  • Knowledge of data manipulation languages such as Hive, Pig, SQL
  • Experience working with AWS cloud services (EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift, S3, Athena, Lambda) is preferred
  • Familiarity with data science tools, technologies, and workflows (R, Jupyter Notebooks) is preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, engineering, math, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Financial Industry is preferred
