The Senior Group Controller, Head of Financial Planning oversees all facets of financial administration and reporting related to the businesses of Massachusetts Financial Services Company and Subsidiaries (MFS) and Sun Life Financial Services Holdings, Inc.and Subsidiaries (SLFSH). Responsible for budgeting, planning, and forecasting, as well as related reporting to the parent company (Sun Life) and reporting to significant external parties (rating agencies, investors). Also manages competitive intelligence, including benchmarking company performance against competitors. The position will function as a key member/advisor to the management team of Corporate Finance and the respecting departments/business units for which it is responsible

•Directs all financial budgeting, planning, and forecasting. Supervises monthly consolidated close process inclusive of preparing and/or reviewing managerial, external financial and operational reports for MFS and its subsidiaries and supported business units. Provides monthly analysis of financial results for CEO and CFO.
•Directs and coordinates all financial support functions of MFS and its subsidiaries related to Sun Life requests focusing on the preparation, analysis and financial control of actual financial results to budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans. Provides Sun Life with details of monthly results under U.S. and IFRS GAAP. Directs compilation of various reports to Sun Life, including Monthly and Quarterly Financial review, financial presentations to the Sun Life Board of Directors, Annual Rating Agency Review, Investor's Day presentation and all ad-hoc requests from Sun Life. Act as a primary contact for MFS with senior members of Sun Life's financial leadership team.
•Coordinate cost accounting allocations and product profitability analysis. Coordinates preparation of all Corporate Financial analysis for MFS Funds Board of Directors annual contract renewal (15c process), including developing corporate and individual fund
•profitability analysis. Oversee enhancements to cost allocations and accounting systems (working with Financial Systems department to implement new tools to assist as needed).
•Supervises all Competitive Analysis. Obtain and analyze competitors financial results. Work closely with external consultants to participate and in and analyse results of key industry surveys. Provide industry competitive information to CFO to supplement strategic decisions and company messaging.
•Communicates and presents group operating results in terms of costs, budgets, financial trends, and cost initiatives to CEO and CFO, senior management of Corporate Finance, strategic business units, MFS senior management and a broad range of external parties. Directs the analysis of costs specific to functions and products within the respective business units to support senior management of Corporate Finance and all assigned strategic business units.
•Directs the development, preparation and maintenance of various managerial, external financial, and operational reports as needed to support strategic initiatives, managerial analysis, and reporting of results and future strategic plans to Sun Life and other key constituents.  Manages the maintenance and development of all Financial Accounting Systems (including outsourced service providers).
•Recommends, implements and administers policies and procedures to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of operations and internal controls and to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
•Oversee the hiring, training, establishment of performance standards and monitoring performance of financial staff. Ensure professional development of staff by establishing goals, communicating expectations and conducting effective performance reviews on a regular basis. Involved in promotions and compensation planning in conjunction with the Corporate Controller.
•Lead and/or participate in corporate wide and departmental strategic initiatives as requested. Assume additional responsibilities as requested.

•Bachelor's degree and CPA plus 15 years of related experience, or an MBA plus 15 years of related experience desired. A CPA and/or an MBA is preferred.
•Strong management skills, including the ability to motivate and develop staff, provide meaningful and regular performance feedback, identify career path opportunities, etc.
•Excellent analytical, project management, presentation and communication skills and the ability to lead and implement new processes and/or initiatives across an organization.
•Expertise in spreadsheet, database, and word processing applications, and experience in the design and implementation of financial applications.
•Ability to work overtime as needed.
