Basic Purpose:

The Team Lead for Business Driven Custom Solutions works as a member of the Information Technology Team within Eaton Vance Management, leading efforts to support custom solutions for various investment teams within Eaton Vance.

Portfolio managers and traders need increasingly more sophisticated technology to help them manage growing trade volume, as well as decisions which are driven by algorithms involving larger amounts of data. Our ability to provide tools that optimize market opportunity evaluation as well as streamline trade execution are key differentiators that will support that growth.

IT is increasingly assisting business groups in developing complex custom business solutions. These range widely but include:

  • Modeling systems that allow researchers to model industries against factors that drive growth and sustainability;
  • Market surveillance applications that allow portfolio managers to find liquidity, as well as review trade proposals;
  • Managing
  • Trade Generations systems that use algorithms to generate proposed trades

This team lead role is responsible for coordinating development efforts and ensuring consistency of approach across these different business-driven initiatives. This role requires:

  • Significant and varied experience in software design and implementation, as well as in evaluation of third party technical offerings;
  • An understanding of trading and operational workflows as well as knowledge of different asset classes;
  • Solid communication skills as this role works closely with product owners and end users in business areas to vet out new ideas and design solution workflows; and
  • Management skills, as this role needs to manage and mentor technical staff

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Portfolio Managers, Analysts, and Traders to understand and refine requirements
  • Manage and mentor developers associated with projects, assigning work and reviewing progress
  • Design and develop software systems, both independently and collaboratively with the rest of the team, ensuring the resulting code is well structured, tested, extensible, and maintainable.
  • Evaluate new solutions that can optimize our development approach. Areas of interest include but are not limited to: applying data science techniques and tools to both financial market and EV proprietary data; helping to define our approach to cloud deployment; and optimizing trade generation and execution workflows
  • Help to define Eaton Vances development approach, refining our agile and DevOps processes

Technical Skills:

  • Eaton Vance use many technologies to solve problems, but considers the following technologies to be core to our custom development:
    • SQL Server 2016, C#, Angular 6+, Restful Web Services, BPM
  • Additionally, we are in the process of transitioning to AWS; the team lead for this role will assist in evaluating new technologies and deciding how best to integrate them into our technical solutions
  • Ability and desire to collaborate, sketch and discuss designs at a whiteboard, engage in pair programming, ask for help before you need it, and openly share code, designs, and ideas.
  • Experience with the following techniques, libraries, and tools are helpful:
    • Agile Methodologies any of Scrum, Kanban, and/or Lean
    • Test driven development (TDD)
    • Git, JIRA

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science strongly preferred
  • Overall 12+ years of software development experience
  • Breadth of experience with different front-end approaches (ideally both experience with web-based and conventional desktop architectures) and back-end technologies and languages (predominately C#, but other languages such as Java and Python are helpful)
  • Solid experience with developing database solutions, including schema design as well as development and optimization of SQL, both for querying data and transaction processing
  • Ideal candidate would also experience with trading systems and trader workflows
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and ability to communicate with non-technical investment professionals
